León, Gto., December 8, 2016.- With the objective to maintain its status as one of the best universities in forming health professionals, the University of Guanajuato (UG) has been considered for the re-accreditation of the degree in Medical Surgeon, distinction approved by the Mexican Council for the Accreditation of the Medical Education (COMAEM) valid for five years (2017-2022).
The process began in collaboration with the administrative and academic personnel of the Division of Health Sciences of Campus Leon. The first part consisted in elaborating a self-evaluation in the way each one of the departments works. It is important to mention that the aspects to consider are not exclusive of the academic ambience, they also examine the administrative processes, the facilities, the service they provide for students and the educational program.
These evidences were gathered throughout the year. Once the report was done by the University, the request was sent to COMAEM.
M.A. Cipriana Caudillo Cisneros, Academic Secretary of the Division of Health Sciences, commented about this process that seeks to maintain the excellence and vanguard in the professional performance of medics: "I want to thank that the students have had an excellent participation, besides we have to point out that the evaluators tell us that our students have a high academic level and critic sense."
In addition, she informed that this year, UG students occupied the third place of all the Universities of Medicine in the national level and first between public institutions in tests such as the CENEVAL.
A five-member committee of the verifying organ visited all the venues where they teach the degree of Medical Surgeon to verify what is written in the self-evaluation corresponds to what they could observe during their stay in the University.
For three days, the committee attended classes with the purpose to presence the evaluation methods of professors, as well as the facilities, with the mean to know how the degree works and make the corresponding observations same that will be delivered with the result, in the next months, so UG can address them and complete the process.
