Irapuato, Gto., December 9, 2016.- For its results and productivity, the Department of Public Educations (SEP) granted the Academic Body of Agricultural Biotechnology of the University of Guanajuato (UG), the status renewal of consolidated but with indefinite term.
This creates the first academic body with this title and validity within the Division of Life Sciences of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca.
Through the Direction of Academic Improvement of the Sub—secretary of Higher Education, the result of the evaluation was notified to the professors-researchers that make diverse studies, both basic and applied in genes and proteins of biotechnological interest.
An academic body is composed by professors-researchers with high productivity and make a tight collaboration. The academic body of Agricultural Biotechnology is formed by Dr. José Eleazar Barboza Corona, whom is responsible for the research group; Dr. Gustavo Hernández Guzmán, Dr. Ma. Fabiola León Galván, Dr. Ma. Cristina del Rincón Castro and Dr. Rubén Salcedo Hernández.
In addition, this group of researchers support the Postgraduate in Biosciences in Masters and Ph.D., both programs are acknowledged by the National Program of Quality Postgraduates of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT).
For example, they study bioactive peptides with multiple biological functions (antimicrobial, antihypertensive, anticarcinogenic) and their mechanism of action; enzymes with properties to rise bio-insecticides or antimicrobial properties and sensors using synthetic biology tools to detect pathogen bacteria.
Likewise, they make work related with entomopathogen virus from their biology, biochemistry, genomic, proteomic and interatomic characteristic, to optimize their use in the field, as an alternative to the use of chemical insecticides.
The academic body of Agricultural Biotechnology was registered in 004 to develop research in gene cloning and production of bacteria proteins of plants with biotechnological application through molecular techniques.
