Guanajuato, Gto., December 9, 2016.- Students of the University of Guanajuato (UG), participated in the project of the Department of Education of Guanajuato (SEG) "School Republic", which seeks for the youth to become generating agents of change for the benefit of the communities.

This collaboration derived from an interinstitutional agreement of UG, through the Program of Environmental Handling and Sustainability, with the Secretary of Education and the Institute of Ecology, which has the purpose to sum efforts so the students function as monitors of environmental information with middle school students.

"School Republic" had the participation of 62 students of the 4 university campuses of the Maximum House of Studies, who at the same time intervened in 62 middle schools in 13 cities of the state Guanajuato.

The initiative is a model of comprehensive formation, which seeks that the students participate in an organized manner in actions that contribute learning, through experiences that generate an ambience of service and citizen participation for the transformation of their school and community.

The responsible of the program of environmental handling of UG, M.A. Dante Acal Sánchez, highlighted that this effort is important for the development of competencies in the students, since it provides the possibility to become agents of change in topics such as: attention of the climate change, pollution problems and the preservation of the biodiversity.

It is important to mention that UG students, received advise from 15 professors-researchers of the four university campuses, that eased the tools for their interventions in high schools, as well as to implement a specific project according the needs of the community they attended.

During the award ceremony, the coordinator of the Environmental Education of the Institute of Ecology, Biologist Miguel Ángel Velázquez, thanked the support and willingness of UG to participate in the project and added that the multidisciplinary profile of the teams formed by the students is relevant, since the environment is a topic that involves the society.

On her part, the Chief of Human Potential of the Regional Delegation Salamanca of the Department of Public Education (SEP), M.A. Lucía Adriana Rentería, highlighted that "School Republic" is an opportunity to potentialize the impact teaching has in the environment.

At the event was present: The Rector of Campus Celaya – Salvatierra of UG and advisor of the project, Dr. Graciela Ma. de la Luz Ruíz Aguilar; and the Chief of Environmental Education of the Delegation Salamanca North-South Regions of SEP, Lic. Jesús Carlos Cerda.
