Guanajuato, Gto., December 15, 2016.- As part of the actions in favor of the environment and comprehensive education of high school students, it was held the First "Forum of Experiences of Youth Brigades of Culture of Water" in high school, where they exposed the work done in the High School College (CNMS) to create a culture to take care of water.
The Forum was the result of the interinstitutional liaison between CNMS, the Division of Engineering of Campus Guanajuato and SIMAPAG (Municipal system of water and sewage of Guanajuato), who invited the high schools to promote the culture of water care.
To achieve this, they invited students to participate, through their professors. This semester, 18 brigades were created, each one with an application project, where more than 120 students, eight from HSs.
To the forum held in the Auditorium of HS Irapuato, attended more than 376 people, who knew the results of the projects: "Analysis of water use habits and the application of strategies for a sustainable usage in elementary and middle school students of the city of Irapuato" of HS Irapuato; "Hydric footprint" of HS Salvatierra; "Collection of rainwater Middle school #19, Leon, Gto." Of HS Centro HIstórico Leon; "Juvenile Brigade to the rescue of water at HS Silao" of HS Silao; "ECO WALL H2O "Rain also works" of HS Celaya; "Traveling tiny drops" of HS Celaya venue el Sauz; "Water Engineers" of HS Guanajuato; "Implementation of a system of training, diffusion and vigilance of water care" of HS Pénjamo and "Bring water from home" of HS León.
Water culture is a strategy that promotes in different sectors of the population –but with special emphasis in children and youth—the continuous realization of actions of care of this vital liquid.
At UG, the program is an initiative of the Division of Engineering with M.A. Josefina Ortíz Medel, Dr. Luz Adriana Arias Hernández and Dr. María Lina Fuentes and from CNMS, Dr. Jesús Raúl Lugo, Academic Secretary, who encouraged at the HSs the formation of juvenile brigades to make actions that generate awareness on the care, saving and rational consumption of water among the community, addressing the commitment of the University with the society and with the quality of life of the coming generations.
At the event, the CNMS' Director, Dr. J. Merced Rizo Carmona, said that the Juvenile Brigades at HSs are contributing in the construction of Water Culture, a project for which is fundamental to guarantee the supply of water and procure saving of water and correct use of the same.
He highlighted that the HSs that share their progress and experience of the formation of brigades "have gone beyond the classrooms, have gone to elementary schools, communities and have focused their commitment in the respect and care of the environment, they have put water saving as the center of their actions. Actions of small groups that we expect to widen to summon more people to participate in the preservation of the hydric resource."
As part of the program, there were to master conferences, "Beyond closing a faucet" in charge of M.A. Alicia Cordero Cabrera, Chief of Institutional Liaison of the State Commission of Water and "Social aspects in handling water for irrigation in the state of Guanajuato" by Dr. Juan T. Frías, researcher of the Division of Life Sciences of the University of Guanajuato.
To the event attended, CNMS' Director, Dr. J. Merced Rizo Carmona; M.A. Josefina Ortiz Medel, Director of Planning at UG and the project's promoter, M.A. Raquel Castro Soriano, Director of HS Irapuato; Dr. Jesús Raúl Lugo, Academic Secretary of the CNMS and M.A. Brígido Gallegos, professor at HS Irapuato and representative of the Organizing Committee.
