profesor-ug-desarrolla-polimeros-prototipo-ug-ugtoGuanajuato, Gto., December 25, 2016.- With the purpose to offer alternatives in generating energies that not affect the environment, the professor and researcher of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. David Contreras López, works in obtaining conductor polymers applied in the solar organic cells.

The reduction of fossil fuels (oil), has created an important necessity to offer alternative sources of renewable, clean and economic energies, so the generating conducting polymers applied to solar organic cells is an option which reduces costs without affecting the planet.

These conducting polymers seek to optimize the production of these cells without using metals, which are difficult to extract and represent high costs to produce.

The polymers, also known as organic metals, are flexible for cost and manufacturing, because they are light and ease the installation and transportation, which allows their industrial production without large investments.

UG's Professor, explained that besides obtaining this type of materials allows a development in objects used in everyday life, for example, touchscreen or flexible screen smartphones, since a conducting polymer allows handling and some functions of the phone.

This scientific methodology is a great opportunity for the industry, with it, it will be possible to obtain a formula to generate energy that will significantly avoid the exposition to drastic conditions such as the metals.

In an interview, Dr. Contreras López, assured that an important part of his work is also in forming human resources with the conviction to become agents who generate ideas, reason why UG students collaborate in the project, which allows them to address and solve the actual needs of the environment.

In addition, he highlighted that the multidisciplinary offer of UG allows to focus in the projects and develop them comprehensively, this had led the institution to occupy important places in the national and international level in the matter of research.

It is important to mention, in the future, the professor-researcher at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Division of Natural and Exact Sciences of Campus Guanajuato, seeks to use the application of polymers to generate fuel cells by hydrogen, to offer a cleaner fuel and less pollutant.
