antidiabeticos-menos-toxicos-universidad-guanajuato-ug-ugto

Guanajuato, Gto., January 1, 2017. In the Department of Chemistry of the University of Guanajuato, they work in a research that could contribute in a better treatment for diabetes, one of the diseases that causes more deaths in Mexico, as well as other bacterial illnesses.

Two research led by Dr. César Rogelio Solorio Alvarado, professor of the Division of Natural and Exact Science (DCNyE), who is supported by the Fund of Technological Innovation of the State of Guanajuato (FINNOVATEG) in liaison with the company COBBYSA S.A. de C.V. seeks to create and then commercialize the synthesis of more durable and less toxic antidiabetics and antibiotic molecules for the users.

According the researcher, the first of the projects with the company consists in creating oral antidiabetics derived from metformin.

He commented that thanks to the discovery of organic elements that generate low solubility in the cores of the biguanides is possible to remove them to combine them with other functional groups and obtain antihyperglycemics, meaning, antidiabetics.

Dr. Solorio Alvarado explained that if there are already several compound products in the market, the difference relies that most of them are rapidly eliminated from the patient's body, causing a constant need of consumption, secondary effects and more economic expense.

In this sense, the project considers to synthetize similar substrates that don't need to be consumed in large quantities and that the organism holds them causing the minor toxicity possible.

Regarding the second project, Synthesis of antibiotic molecules; the researcher pointed out that it is about a similar problem, since he commented about certain diseases such as pneumonia, the agent doesn't answer the first and second generation antibiotics, since they are also rapidly evacuated by the organism.

He detailed that he works together with other students of major and postgraduates to develop ciprofloxacin and all its generations, obtained from removing the carboxylic acid, which generates a low solubility, and its combination with other allogenic groups, to be later used as bactericide.

Both projects, sustained the professor of the Department of Chemistry, are innovating in the national researches, since they allow a better use of the substances in treatments that would counter the effects of the mortal diseases.

In this sense, he assured that both projects are in the study phase of toxicity and bioavailability to improve the products, however, the researcher assured that he has great expectations, so they currently expect the next summons from FINNOVATEG to continue them.

Finally, he called the society and the state government to continue linking the companies through the university to provide more resources in this kind of projects, since the technology is also in drugs and diverse applications.
