Guanajuato, Gto., January 13, 2017.- A course to analyze through the computing system ConsNet will be given at the University of Guanajuato (UG). ConsNet is a tool that allows the priorization of areas with conservation purposes.
The workshop "Systematic planning of conservation, concepts and methods" is organized by the Museum of Natural History "Alfredo Dugés" of UG, and will be held from February 20 to 24 from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00 at the meeting room of the Direction of Support for Research and Postgraduate (DAIP).
The President of the Board of the Department of Biological Monitoring and Planning of Conservation of the Biological Conservation and Social Development, A.C., Dr. Francisco Javier Botello López will taught this course.
The scholar has a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences of the Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM), he has postgraduate studies in Sciences and Biology.
The main objective of the course is to analyze the basic concepts of the conservation biology, as well as the theoretical framework of the Systematic Planning of the Conservation; in addition, the attendees will be trained to make analysis through the computing system ConsNet.
One highlight is that the systematic planning of the conservation (PSC), is a several stages structured process that seeks the best solution to properly represent the biodiversity in the territory of interest.
With the adequate process of these tools, they'll have the capability to make the analysis that allow the appropriate representability considering relevant factors in conservation biology such as complementarity and geographical rareness.
The course is aimed to people with intermediate level of knowledge in ArcGis or any other SIG software, knowledge and previous experience with species distribution modeling. Direct interest in prioritizing areas destined for conservation, as well as a Laptop with any SIG software included and 4GB ram minimum.
If the attendant already has species distribution models that he or she wishes to use to make the analysis or prioritization, we recommend to bring them in grid format.
