Guanajuato, Gto., January 23, 2017. As a sign of solidarity with the student community –given the economic situation in the country—the University of Guanajuato (UG) started a free transport service which will benefit more than 4,500 high school and college students.
While making the official delivery of the vehicles that will offer this service, UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, reminded that this support for the students is possible thanks to the austerity measures, budget rationality and solidarity that the authorities at the House of Studies revealed to know at the beginning of the year.
It is –he said—a small contribution of the university authorities to the family and personal economy. In the first stage, the project will cover the route that leads to the venue Marfil, where the Divisions of Economic Administrative Sciences (DCEA), Architecture, Art & Design (DAAD) and Rectory offices of Campus Guanajuato are.
There is also a route that leads to the venue Valenciana, to benefit students from the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities, and another to the HS Guanajuato.
Besides, in the next months, the free transport service will extend to the four university campuses and the different venues from UG, as informed by the Secretary of Management and Development, M. Jorge Alberto Romero Hidalgo, who detailed that these are part of the actions the General Rectory has taken to help students.
At the ceremony, the Rector of Campus Guanajuato, Dr. Teresita de Jesús Rendón Huerta Barrera, mentioned that this measure represents a historical step for UG, since the institution didn't have a benefit of this nature.
DCEA's Director, Dr. Claudia Susana Gómez López, highlighted the need to improve the transport for college students was a concern for Dr. Guerrero Agripino since he was at front of the rectory of Campus Guanajuato, and made a recognition to the executive authorities for adhering to the austerity measures and show solidarity with the community.
Representing the benefited students, Andreas Justine Araujo Méndez, thanked the University of Guanajuato for providing them with tools and services to be better students and form them in optimal conditions, at the same time she invited her peers to answer with their best effort to act responsibly and retribute society for the given opportunities.
At the vehicle delivery ceremony also attended the Pro Vost, Dr. Héctor Efraín Rodríguez de la Rosa; Academic Secretary, Dr. Raúl Arias Lovillo; Campus Celaya-Salvatierra's Rector, Dr. Graciela Ma. de la Luz Ruiz Aguilar; Campus León's Rector, Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez; Campus Irapuato-Salamanca's Rector, Dr. Armando Gallegos Muñoz; HS Principal, Dr. J. Merced Rizo Carmona; executive authorities and members of the university community.
