The academic body "Interdisciplinary Studies about Culture", was registered in the improvement program for teaching staff (PROMEP) of the Department of Public Education as a consolidated academic body.

Ascribed to the Department of Cultural Studies of Campus León of the University of Guanajuato (UG), whose responsible is Dr. José de Jesus Cordero Domínguez and formed by three researchers: Dr. Morelos Torres Aguilar, Dr. Carlota Laura Meneses Sánchez and Dr. Alejandro Mercado Villalobos. They ratify their commitment to contribute to the strengthening of the culture of the city of Leon, Guanajuato and the country, by studying cultural phenomena that boost the rescue and preservation of the cultural heritage.

They indicated that the social impact this academic body has, is through seminars, colloquiums or conferences, help the population be aware of the value culture has in the everyday life and life's project. In the same way, find forms to study and register the elements that allow to understand the culture through physical tangible and intangible elements and lastly, to divulge among the people of Guanajuato, the cultural elements that makes them unique.

In an interview, Dr. José de Jesús Cordero, responsible of the academic body, commented that this year, they've projected to publish articles in magazines from Spain and Colombia where they'll address the topic of the participation of cultural heritage in everyday life. Likewise, they'll publish a third book parting from the results of the research. "We work cultural heritage seen from the history of culture, historic downtowns, as a need to document and research what happens", he mentioned.

On her part, Dr. Carlota Meneses shared that the academic body has generated relevant products such as the five editions of the University Colloquium "Let's talk about cultural heritage" which is considered an academic event where not only students attend but also people from institutions such as the Municipal Historic Archive, Instituto Cultural de León, Forum Cultural Guanajuato, Museum of the Universidad de la Salle Bajío , Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA), Centro Universitario de los Lagos of the Universidad de Guadalajara and instances of Cultural Extension of the same University of Guanajuato.

When they were asked about the impact of being an academic body in consolidation to form students, they commented that students possess several research lines for their theses, as well as their inclusion in academic processes.

They added that the students have the tools to propose projects to institutions and companies such as the case of a group of female students that last December presented a work to the newspaper "El Heraldo", which consisted on a historical, photographic, and hemerographic research on the heritage of that editorial company.

"The enthusiasm comes from the students, they are reaching out, because they perceive opportunities in events like these. We are inviting them with consistent and practical works when seeing the job market waiting for them, to develop cultural products" is what Dr. Morelos Torres Aguilar expressed, one of the members of this academic body in consolidation.
