
Irapuato, Gto. January 18, 2017.- Students of the University of Guanajuato who besides sports they are interested in learning techniques of personal defense, participated in the internal tournament of Grappling Jiu Jitsu, held at the Division of Life Sciences (DICIVA) of the University of Guanajuato.
From 20 competitors, the winners in the male category were César González Ponciano (first place), Felipe de Jesús González Aguilera (second place) and Diego Adolfo Alonso Arredondo (third place).
In the female category, imposed for their technique, Alicia Gisele García Cerrillo (first place), Erika Valeria Sandoval Moncada (second place) and tied in third place the twins Fátima del Carmen and Alma Cristina Sánchez Pantoja.
Juan Francisco González Jasso, trainer of this discipline and organizer of the event, informed that the participating students of Grappling Jiu Jitsu has been gradually growing, to whom he trains twice a week at the Ex-Hacienda El Copal.
He explained that the creation of this sport was 50 years ago, the creator of this system is sensei (Japanese term designated for a teacher) Helio Grazie. His family was from Brazil but had relation with the Japanese culture and began training Japanese judo and created a technique of his own, his motto is that any fighter can defeat any person, it doesn't matter the force or size, what matters is the technique.
Currently, it is a very popular sport that has been winning followers here in Mexico because it also helps as personal defense with overthrow, control and submission techniques.
Grappling, translates as "grabbing" and refers to all body wrestling systems that don't involve punches to beat the rival, but use overthrow, position or submission techniques to get points or force surrender. This type of systems are used everywhere in the world, many of these grappling systems are traditional wrestling of an ethne or a region.
The tournament held at the facilities was approved by the sport coordination of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, in charge of M. Vicente Javier Álvarez Villafaña, with support from the responsible of the sport complex at DICIVA, Prof. Ricardo Calderón Hernández and Coordinator of Student Health of Campus, Adrián Ricardo García Salazar.
