Salamanca, Gto., January 26, 2017.- The presence of women in science, is encouraged with the participation of female students of the University of Guanajuato (UG) in the student chapter of the Optical Society of America (OSA).

Students of the program of Digital Arts, led by Ariadna Marcela Ramírez Oros, assumed the board of the student chapter of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, which belongs to the organization dedicated to research and education in optics and photonics, established since 1916.

OSA's board at campus is formed by María Teresa Vázquez Medina (Vice president), Daniela Joven Pérez Lara Arredondo (Treasurer), Ana Nallely Rentería Mendoza (Secretary), Dulce Ivonne Aguilera Hernández (1st vocal) y María Estefanía Magaña Rivera (2nd vocal), all are students of the program of Digital Arts of the Division of Engineering at Salamanca.

Finishing the period leading the student chapter, the student Carlos Reséndiz Solís, informed that the activities done in The Optical Society of America, showing evidence of the events organized by the outgoing board, such as Coffee Science, Congress of Optics and Photonics Applied (OPA) and the event "Traveling."

The outgoing president recommended Ariadna Marcela to use the maximum of OSA's membership, which counts with several periodic publications such as the Journal of the Optical Society of America and the Journal of Optical Networking; as well as the Optics and Photonics News (OPN), in addition of continue making events for the university community.

Within the work plan, Ariadna Ramírez proposed the incorporation of students from all degrees taught at the Division of Engineering and thanked the presence of Dr. Cristina Margarita Gómez Sarabia and Dr. Jorge Ojeda Castañeda, since OSA's chapter has the support and advise of several professors in the division.

In 2016, OSA celebrated its first centennial, with more than 19,000 members of 100 countries and 358 student chapters.
