Guanajuato, Gto., January 30, 2017. The University of Guanajuato (UG) and the Department of Tourism (Sectur) signed a collaboration agreement to position Guanajuato as a "Cultural Destination of Mexico", with the support of the students who participate in the student mobility programs, through the program "Speaker Gto".

According the agreement's terms, the House of Studies will provide to the sate dependency the list of students who accept to enroll in the "Speaker Gto" Program. Sectur will train the students so they can promote Guanajuato through a public presentation in the destination –national or international—where they will make a stay through the Student Mobility program of UG.

At the event, the General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, highlighted that UG is one of the few universities that has the degree in Touristic Resources Management for over 20 years, because for the institution is very transcendent to divulge art, culture and national traditions.

"We're convinced that it is up to the sum of efforts to make Mexico a place to be known and renowned in the world", said Dr. Guerrero. Us, in the university ambience, we do it through that wonderful force called education, added UG's General Rector.

On his part, the Secretary of Tourism, M. Fernando Olivera Rocha thanked the willingness of the university authorities to work together. This permanent collaboration –he said—is what allows to have a future with professionals in the industry of tourism.

He explained that the program "Speaker Gto" has several stages: begins with a 6-hour course for the participants, who then will make a tour by Guanajuato, so they know the places they'll promote. In addition, they will be provided material such as videos and brochures which will ease their labor. The results from their experience as speakers will be shared through the social media of the Department and the University of Guanajuato.

The training program has six modules: Destinations, routes and circuits; experiences; art; culture and education; gastronomy and travel tips. To the participants, Sectur and UG will hand a recognition as a "Speaker Gto Agent."

During the agreement signing, the Rector of Campus Guanajuato, Dr. Teresita de Jesús Rendón Huerta Barrera, sustained that tourism today is not an improvised activity, but a professional one. In this sense, she reminded that the degree in Touristic Resource Management offered by UG has international accreditation and has an enormous potential in the academic mobility part.

At the welcome, the Director of Liaison of UG, Dr. Salvador Hernández Castro, said that since last year they started working in this agreement and celebrated that it concreted, since this is the moment where they can take advantage of the opportunities of making something positive for the country.

At the signing were present, from the House of Studies, the Pro Vost, Dr. Héctor Efraín Rodríguez de la Rosa and the Director of Student Development, M. José Osvaldo Chávez Rodríguez.

Sectur's delegation was formed by the Deputy Director of Touristic Promotion, Lic. Octavio Humberto Aguilar Mata; the director of Legal Affairs, Alejandra Bernardino Cruz and the director of Public Relations, José Luis Cabrejos Samamé.
