Celaya, Gto., January 30, 2017. The development of bio fungicides seems to be the key for the control of diseases caused by pathogen fungi, reduce the numbers of loss of crops and at the same time minimize the impacts of the environment. That is what Dr. Luis Antonio Mariscal revealed; he is a researcher of the National Institute of Forest, Agricultural and Livestock Research (INIFAP) who works with Dr. Jesús Rubén Rodríguez, professor-researcher of the University of Guanajuato (UG).
"Analyzing different alternatives that can function as natural fungicide agents. They opted for using vegetable extracts with the mean that "a plant takes care of the other" since it is safer for both the environment as well for the human health, than a chemical fungicide and less expensive", explained Dr. Rubén Núñez.
After several studies done to moringa, the researchers decided to use it for the study with different fungus that cause decomposing of root and stem in vegetables and cereals, leaf blights in cereal and vegetables and wither or dryness in leaf cultures.
According the United Nations Organization of Food and Agriculture, moringa is from the bush and trees gender with multiple uses: its leaves, roots and green sheath are consumed as vegetables. All the parts of the moringa tree –bark, sheath, leaves, nuts, seeds, tuberculous, roots and flowers—are edible.
Within the laboratory of phytopathology of INIFAP, using microbiological techniques, they found that 4 out of 6 genders of fungi, applying moringa extract, inhibits its growth, hence, the next step is to prove the extracts directly over an infected fruit or plant with any of the studies fungi.
If the efficiency is proven, they could be the first steps in creating a new bio fungicide, which represent a less aggressive solution with the environment and redound in the development of a better world through the use and development of new technological innovations.
The results in the laboratory have been successful said Dr. Rubén Núñez, "we hope we can apply it directly in the crops, to prove its efficiency to then market it, in the meantime, it requires more work and tests."
It has been proven worldwide that the use of chemical products as fungicide agents or pesticides to heal crops, have had an impact on human health to which are attributed respiratory problems, memory disorders, skin diseases, depression, abortions, birth defects, cancer and neurological diseases. Bio fungicides appear to be the key to control diseases caused by fungi and with it, reduce the loss numbers if crops and at the same time mitigate the global health problems.
