Guanajuato., Febraury 7, 2017.- Authorities of the University of Guanajuato (UG) and the Mexican Institute of the Industrial Property (IMPI) gave medals to the winners of the first places in the seven categories of the Contest of Creativity and Innovation, that has been made for eleven years at the house of studies.

The contest is open for high school, college and postgraduate students, and it has the purpose to promote, impulse and develop creativity, the innovation and the entrepreneur spirit in the students through social, technological, environmental, cultural, artistic initiatives or inventions that allow the generation of business ideas and/or innovative projects.

In its 11th edition, 70 projects were registered, which seek to provide an answer to the local, regional, national and international needs and impact in the comprehensive formation of the student.

Among the winners, there are projects such as "Ecolamp" that seeks to generate energy from plants, develop drugs against breast and prostate cancer, artisanal jewelry and an optical localization system.

At the ceremony, UG's Academic Secretary, Dr. Raúl Arias-Lovillo, affirmed that in the state, the most important institution of the scientific and technological research is the University of Guanajuato. Reason why, he considered that the House of Studies is in the right path for being a creative, innovative and patent generator university.

When congratulating the awarded students, he exhorted them to be a role model so more students dare to create and innovate, "not only is the professional future in the line, but you as college students, you have an enormous opportunity to contribute to the development of a greater number of employment generation", and position Mexico as an innovative and creative country, he said.

The head of IMPI's Regional Office, Lic. Alejandro Raúl Salas-Dominguez, celebrated the realization of this contest, that seeks to materialize innovative ideas in prototypes of products or services.

He revealed that a national level, the state of Guanajuato occupies the third place in registered patents and the fifth in granted patents, and recognized UG's leadership in the subject, by occupying the fourth place in the country of granted patents. Likewise, he invited all the students to take advantage of the opportunity of being part of a prestige university, that motivates them to innovate and entrepreneur.

In his welcome message, the Director of Liaison of the House of Studies, Dr. Salvador Hernández Castro points out that the Contest of Creativity and Innovation is a very important project for UG, because through it, the university community outreaches the benefit of teaching, research and the extension to society. Besides, he highlighted that for the institution it is a priority to encourage an entrepreneur culture.

The awarded students were accompanied by their advisors, families, professors and unipersonal authorities of the University of Guanajuato.
