Guanajuato, Gto., February 7, 2017.- Two years and a half ago emerged a student project that from its first steps took lead for its social transcendence: Mentors UG, where young students of the University of Guanajuato (UG) accompany and are a role model for children in elementary school.
The main idea is to create spaces where the children coexist and know students and graduates of UG from the different majors, develop their own talent, and at their time, they can be economically aided.
This Tuesday, students and project's coordinator: Jessica Durán Rojas, who is the seventh semester of the major in Industrial Relationships (DCEA); Karla Yadira Romero Sandoval, graduate from the major in Education; Regina Mercado Calderón, from the fifth semester of the major in Law (DDPG) and Christian Emmanuel Pérez Gutiérrez of the seventh semester of the major in Industrial Relationships (DCEA); received the first-place medal in a social project in the 11th edition of the contest of creativity and innovation.
In an interview, the young students and graduate from UG's Campus Guanajuato, revealed that they are already seeking to register Mentors, as well as the standardization so it reaches other venues and campus, and the next step is to consolidate in this and other cities.
For now, college students continue working with girls and boys so they have a role model; they use an instrument to detect at an early age which are their talents, and in the future, they'll seek schemes to support financing means and continue their education.
A NEW EDITION BEGINS
In this matter, next Sunday February 26th will begin the fifth edition of Mentors UG, where they expect the attendance of between 80 & 100 children, for which they have an approach with parents, to whom the past Friday February 3rd they were explained the process to register the children.
They highlighted that the project continues being managed by students, although it has the approval of the Direction of UG's Student Development, but they present results in their respective Divisions.
They informed that they are about to define the place for the activities, which could continue in the Jesuit patio or maybe at the Mesón de San Antonio; where the little ones will receive opportunities to know arts, environment, nutrition and health, history, science and technology, sports, philosophy, languages and theater.
