Guanajuato, Gto. February 8, 2017.- 56 years have made the difference in the radiofrequency of the state with the transmission of Radio Universidad de Guanajuato, making a significant impact in the cultural and educational growth in the people of Guanajuato.

Being a small facility with 500htz of power, few equipment and only 200 music tapes, has become one of the most important radio stations of the entity with great coverage and cultural diffusion, as revealed by the Coordinator of the Center of Studies and Actions for the Social and Human Development of UG, M. Diego León I. Rábago.

He remembered that, arriving to Guanajuato in 1959, Radio UG already existed with the direction of "Palillo Castro", at that time it was incipient as everything when it starts.

While he studies in the then School of Law, his first encounter with the radio station was to provide his social service translating the covers of the discs that had a historical abstract of the play and notes from the authors in English; the material was used to transmit on the air and inform the public, "I remember that back then there was only one program of 4 hours", he said.

After he finished his social service, he dedicated to exercise his profession, but the insatiable search to improve and continue reinforcing Radio UG, motivated M. Diego León to incorporate again in 1973 with the invitation of M. Eugenio Trueba, and it was then when he found the facilities in the high part of the Teatro Principal, with few equipment and a collection of 200 tapes and 50 magneto phonic tapes.

Soon, he became director of Radio UG integrated by a group of enthusiast students where the diffusion of culture and the university doing was a priority, being faithful to culture, and since then began to negotiate, based on loans and recordings, a collection of discs that allowed to reinforce the programming.

He assured that one of the successful programs was one of folkloric and protest music, where they gave information about the music groups and social movements that happened on that time. Rene Dorado was a promoter of the collection of this program, he remembered, and in the same way, architect Juan Manuel Valtierra lent his discs for another emission with Jazz music.

The interest of M. Diego León Rábago to improve the collection began the negotiation of products in a national and international level with radio stations of Sweden, US, Moscow, France, Spain and Canada.

In 9 years and a half, M. Diego León increased significantly this collection with more than 8,500 tapes and one more with 600 operas; he also obtained the permit to transmit the programs of the International Cervantine Festival (FIC).

After remembering the beginnings and the growth of Radio Universidad of Guanajuato, M. Diego Rábago mentioned that today, the radio station has grown thanks to the support of the university authorities and assures that it will continue growing, and improving his cultural programming and coverage and the university doing, "Radio UG is in the way of being a national and international success", he finalized.
