Irapuato, Gto., February 9, 2017.- For her capability of research and teaching in the field of molecular biology, the professor of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Ma. Fabiola León-Galván, entered the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC), becoming the first woman of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca to achieve the distinction.
Dr. León-Galván, a 7-year professor at the Department of Food based in Irapuato. She belongs to the National Researchers System, Level I, and is a founding member of the doctorate in biosciences taught at the Division of Life Sciences.
"Being the first woman in the Division of Life Sciences to achieve entering AMC, is a great commitment with our university and Mexico, to continue contributing in the generation of knowledge and the formation of high level human resources", said the professor.
She made her Ph.D. in Sciences at the Instituto Potosino de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica A.C. (IPICYT), had a scholarship from the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACY) and a post doctorate scholarship of amaranth: future-food: 6th Framework European Union; has made research stays at Haarmant Institute in Helsinski, Finland, Ecolè Politechnique Federal de Laussane.
Her specialty field is molecular biology, with a special reference to Proteomics and Genic expression applied to the study of genes and active peptides with multiple biological functions and its mechanism of action, mainly in functional foods; meaning, seeks peptides in foods who can integrated to processed foods that provide the consumer a benefic effect to health.
She explained that AMC, groups researchers of outstanding academic careers who work in different institutions in the country and abroad; links scientists of diverse knowledge areas under the principle that science, technology and education are essential tools to construct a culture that allows the development of the nations.
In 2015, AMC had 2,657 members, from which 642 are women.
