Guanajuato, Gto., February 10, 2017.- This Thursday at the facilities of the Division of Economic-Administrative Sciences (DCEA) of Campus Guanajuato of the University of Guanajuato (UG), the Class INEGI-UGTO began thanks to an agreement signed last year which allows the generation of quality products in research and teaching and extension.

The mentioned class is an academic initiative constituted by a series of conferences on topics of statistics and geography in charge of specialists of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) and has been taught for several years in different universities since 2010, with the purpose to open a space to share the knowledge and promote the use of information, support research and educational products.

Now, thanks to the interest of UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, who in September 2016 requested the creation of the Class, has been able to concrete such academic activity which will benefit both institutions.

At the opening ceremony, Dr. Salvador Hernández Castro, Director of Liaison of UG, celebrated the beginning of this class at UG, because it will be very helpful for the professors-researchers because it promotes their entry to the national system of researchers (SNI), where UG already has 900 researchers and 50% belong to SNI, above the national average which is 20%.

Dr. Hernández Castro highlighted that this class helps because the institution has academic bodies that have research lines in areas where INEGI works and they'll benefit with the generation of articles, memories and publication of books; while the students, will benefit with the consultation of information and indicators.

It was the turn of M. Velino Esteves Jiménez, DCEA's Academic Secretary and responsible for the INEGI class, representing Dr. Claudia Susana Gómez López, head of the Division; welcome the attendees to the gathering of this project which was conceived last year and today is a reality which will generate interesting academic products from DCEA and the Division of Social and Administrative Sciences of Campus Celaya-Salvatierra.

On his part, Dr. Enrique Ordaz López, General Director of Integration, Analysis and Research of INEGI, offered the conference "Objectives of Sustainable Development", and revealed that the institution has 29 students graduated from UG and working in different areas.

There is a tight relationship with the University of Guanajuato, he said, with which since 2007 signed an agreement of cooperation and 2015 signed an update of the general agreement of collaboration, to carry out research, extension, diffusion activities as well as technical and technological supports.

Even during 2016, there were 254 activities made in workshops, courses, advisories in the topics of information and currently have 26 projects of use of information and the participation of INEGI consists in orienting the users in the search of information related with projects of interest.

Likewise, together with UG, INEGI has a fund from the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt), which finances research that INEGI requests and the Universities propose, he informed.

Also participated in this conference, Dr. Benito Rodríguez Haros, Director of the Division of Social and Administrative Sciences of Campus Celaya-Salvatierra; Dr. Humberto Dueñas Acuña, State Coordinator of Guanajuato INEGI and Dr. Ricardo Contreras Soto, professor and responsible of the INEGI Class at DCEA.
