Guanajuato, Gto., February 14, 2017.- The Folkloric Ballet of the University of Guanajuato (BAFUG) will present for the first time in one of the most important enclosures of our country, the Palacio of Bellas Artes in Mexico City.
Next Saturday March 18 at 19:00hrs, the university artistic group will offer a show integrated by diverse choreographies, that has the title "Guanajuato, earth and tradition".
BAFUG's director, Roberto Martínez Rocha –who this year reaches 20 years of leading this remarkable ballet—mentioned that one of the main objectives of the group to divulge the traditions of the state of Guanajuato, reason why they'll share dances, ballrooms, jarabes and sonnets of the folklore of Guanajuato.
Roberto Martínez Rocha said that "for this time we have made a very special program, "Guanajuato, earth and tradition" which, we've been working for several years, with the purpose to divulge the identity of Guanajuato. We will be presenting dances of the time of the colony, warrior dances, Chichimecan dances, a "topada" from the Sierra Gorda, as well as sonnets and jarabes of Guanajuato."
Another relevant aspect of the program is an homage to the composer of Guanajuato, Juventino Rosas with his waltz on the waves and equally they'll present a choreography made by BAFUG's director, where it represents one of the most important festivities of the state capital: Day of the Flowers and the Virgin of Dolores.
Likewise, they commented: "it is a great commitment and a great emotion to be able to step in such an emblematic place such as Palacio de Bellas Artes and what better that at my 20th anniversary leading this company. We will represent our state with heart and dignity."
BAFUG's director thanked the support received from the Republic's Senate, specially the senator Miguel Ángel Chico, who has been a key piece for this presentation. He also recognized the continuous support of the University of Guanajuato and the accessibility of the personnel of the Palacio de Bellas Artes.
It is worth mentioning, BAFUG was founded between November 1985 and April 1986 led at that time by M. América Balbuena-Cisneros. It is from August 1997 that the ballet's direction is overseen by M. Roberto Martínez Rocha, who throughout 18 years managed to found the Children and Juvenile Ballet. Since then, the dance activity focuses as part of a comprehensive and formative education, and with the uneasiness to rescue and preserve the ethnic-dance and musical process of the country, the group makes choreographic montages with the purpose to know, preserve and sustain the traditions of the state of Guanajuato and Mexico, as part of our cultural heritage.
