campus-leon-recibe-a-rectores-ug-ugtoLeón, Guanajuato February 14, 2017. - As part of the activities of the XIV Summit of Rectors Mexico-Cuba, functionaries and representatives of Cuban universities, as well as members of higher education institutions of the country visited the facilities of the University of Guanajuato Campus León.

During the presentation, Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez, Rector of Campus León, reiterated that the Campus is betting to be a cluster of health, and with it, not only consolidate the academic area but the clinical area.

Besides, he said that is pretended that in 2018 the new General Hospital of Leon will be concluded and continue working with the Regional Hospital of High Specialty, State Center of Transfusion, Pediatric Hospital of León, Mexican Institute of the Social Security (IMSS) and very likely a new clinic from the Institute of Security and Social Services of the State Workers (ISSTE) that is planned to be built near the facilities of venue San Carlos.

The committee split in two groups, one of them visited the Medical Tower of the Division of Health Sciences and another group joined the visit of the Division of Sciences and Engineering.

At first, within the Division of Health Sciences, they officially presented the academic entities that are part of the Campus, afterwards they made a tour by the laboratory of Nursery and Midwifery equipped with emergency simulators, birth and incubators, with the purpose for the students of the educational programs of Nursing and Medical Surgeon to face real scenarios.

In an interview, Lic. Alexis Seijo García, Rector of the Universidad de las Artes de of Habana, Cuba, shared that during the visit, he and his partners were impressed with the link in the social development of the University of Guanajuato, mainly with their locality and their region, in addition, he remarked the use of technology of the House of Studies as a social and human function.

Later, they toured the laboratory of surgical dexterities, where the students can practice in a real operating room which in a future will be made by them.

Right after, they moved to the laboratory of metabolism where they make blood analysis, glucose, urine, among others. Then, it was the turn of the simulator of cardiac and pulmonary rhythms, there, they could listen to heartbeats through this top-technology equipment.

To finalize, the committee entered the virtual table; a team that was acquired two years ago; it allows the students and professors to visualize the anatomy of a human body and see its function in 3D.

The committee that went to the Division of Sciences and Engineering were welcomed by Dr. David Ives Guisland Delepine, Director of the Division.

Within the tour, they visited the facilities of the laboratories of elemental particles, biomaterials, quantum optics and physics of particles where the professors-researchers commented the projects they are working on collaboration with the students, their objectives, research lines and mentioned the work done together with other universities and institutions.
