Guanajuato, Gto., February 14, 2017.- The Institutional Program of Gender Equality (UGénero) has prepared a series of activities toward the topic of violence in the relationships.

Regarding the program, which coincides with the celebration of Valentine's day, UGénero's Coordinator, M. Abraham Nemesio Serrato Guzmán commented that as first activity, they gave a talk about gender violence at HS Guanajuato from 15:00 to 17:00.

Then, on Wednesday February 15th, there will be a conference about violence in the workplace, which will be held in the Department of Nursing of Campus Guanajuato from 11:00 to 12:30. Afterwards, on Thursday 16th, the same conference will be held in the Department of Medicine of Campus Leon from 10:00 to 14:00 and to close the program, there will be a workshop to prevent gender violence in the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities of Campus Leon from 08:30 to 10:00 on Tuesday February 21st.

The coordinator commented that "these activities are made with the purpose for the university community to realize that there are inadequate practices in the concept we know as "romantic love" which most times we find cases of jealousy, control, domination and fear that provoke violence."

The talks and workshops to make, they will explain basic concepts on love and sexuality, so they can delve in the description on gender violence, the types of violence and its modalities with the purpose for the university community is aware that the University of Guanajuato (UG) has a protocol of attention for the affected people.

Such protocol provides a psychological, legal and medical accompaniment, according the case. M. Abraham emphasized in that one of the main functions of UGénero is to let the victim know she or he is not alone and that UG works every day to offer prevention and protection to its community.

To finalize, M. Abraham Nemesio Serrato Guzmán, reminded that there is available a catalogue for the university community on training topics that can be addressed in modalities of workshops, talks, reflection groups, conferences and courses.

These training courses address themes such as UGénero Program, Protocol of Attention, Sex-Gender System, Violence free relationships, Respect for sexual diversity, Prejudices, Stereotypes and Discriminations, Harassment and Sexual offense, Mobbing or Work Harassment, Bullying, Gender violence, Attention to people in situations of violence, Masculinities and Sexual and reproductive rights, among others.
