Guanajuato, Gto., February 16, 2017.- In a recognition ceremony to whom made the construction of the stairway and the General Auditorium of the University of Guanajuato (UG) possible, there was a 65-year's commemoration of a symbol of identity for "college students, people of Guanajuato and the Nation."

The event constitutes an occasion to remember the great constructions achieved with effort and work of many people throughout history, said UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino.

Therefore, expressed his gratitude to who made the construction possible, especially, to the former UG's rector, Lic. Antonio Torres Gómez, "a human with great view", and governor José Aguilar y Maya, who made this project "his most beloved construction."

In the same sense, UG's Pro Vost Dr. Héctor Efraín Rodríguez de la Rosa, sustained that the event is not only to celebrate an architectonic element, but the university greatness, result of the effort of all the members of the university community and the generations that preceded.

The coordinator of the Determining Commission of Precious Goods, Dr. María Guevara Sanginés spoke about the background of the University of Guanajuato, since it emerged as a hospice for Jesuits, and the historical context where UG's Auditorium and stairway was built.

He also reminded that the architect Vicente Urquiaga Rojas used the stairway and the façade of a building in Girona, Spain as a model, and for its construction it was necessary for the government to acquire several houses to then demolish them to edify the emblematic building of the House of Studies.

The researcher of the Department of Architecture, Dr. Dolores Elena Álvarez Gasca emphasized that UG's Stairway not only identifies college students. Today, --she mentioned—we celebrate the construction of a building that has become a symbol of union for the people of Guanajuato.

At the end of the ceremony, a photo gallery was inaugurated; the gallery shows the construction process of the emblematic stairway and general auditorium of the University of Guanajuato.

To finalize, it was informed that, as part of the 65th anniversary of this construction, for the next days, UG's Stairway will have a special illumination, hence, the public was invited to visit the Central Building.
