Guanajuato, Gto., February 26, 2017.- With the enthusiasm and goal to fight the educational lag in the early academic stages of the student, UG Mentors begins the fifth stage of work, consolidating two years of service to society.

In a ceremony with 80 elementary school students with their families, the students of the University of Guanajuato (UG) started this volunteer project to begin the activities that will last two weeks, period where they'll support the academic, professional and personal development of the participants.

In his intervention, the founder of UG Mentors, César Román Patlán Espinoza, said that this project has been growing, and it has been thanks to the support of the parents, as well as the university guidance that has advised them and supported to continue and develop this project.

He said that Mentors emerged to strengthen the education and fight against whatever makes the kids stop studying. This project is based on solving three main problems of the educational demand in Mexico, which are: Lack of role models; lack of early detention of talent and the lack of financing.

In an interview, the student of the Degree of Industrial Relations of UG, Jessica Durán Rojas told how these three stages develop in the children.

In the first, UG students coexist with 4, 5 and 6 graders, so the children can have a role model. It is about telling them why they studied that degree and for six weeks, with different topics, work the knowledge of the degrees, of other ambiences, and motivate them to reach their goals.

In the second stage, --which is beginning in this stage—an exam is applied to the children which shows a fan of options and profiles so both, they and their families know and detect the talents in the minor, and with this, provide a better support in their development. It is worth mentioning that the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional and several psychologists developed this instrument.

And the third stage is the financing, the college student assured that at the time there is only one link, but on the long term the objective is to obtain other methods to be a platform so children may continue developing their activities.

"Having this kind of activities is going beyond posting thing on social media, it is about your will to be correct", finalized the student Jessica Durán Rojas.

On her part, the little Perla Joselyn Sánchez Barajas of the ES Moisés Sáez, benefited of this project, expressed his gratitude for the support of the mentors: "Here the mentors encourage us to be better women and men, and reach our goals, and what we want to be, another stage is wonderful for all the children, thanks to the mentors who have supported us to become a better person", she said.

Finally, the reagent of the H. City Hall of Guanajuato, Lic. Ana Gabriela Cárdenas Vázquez, committed to support this project and strengthen the skills that exist in every child at elementary schools, since education is one of the best tools for the human being.

During the event, they had the presence of the Sub-secretary for Educational Development, Lic. José Abel Arteaga Sánchez, students who belong to the program and parents of the children who will be in this Mentors' edition.
