
León, Guanajuato, February 24, 2017.- Users and visitors of the plaza of the citizenship "Griselda Álvarez" of the city of León, received information regarding the care and attention of health and divulgation of science in children; coordinated by students and professors of Campus Leon of the University of Guanajuato (UG) as part of the program of the Second Festival of Arts, Sciences and Humanities.
The activities began with a talk called "Living with diabetes" taught by Dr. Sergio Márquez Gamiño, professor-researcher of the Division of Health Sciences where he shared how to live healthy with diabetes, he said that "eating well has been altered by the changes induced by the free commerce trade, our diet has gone American".
He added that the availability of the technology has generated that people walk less, use the bicycle less and prefer to sleep less hours for being connected to technologic devices used today.
In an interview, Dr. Márquez commented to be satisfied with the participation of forty-nine students of the educational program of Sciences of the Physical Activity and Health who made workshops of weight and size measurement, glucose and blood pressure, known as a screening test; they attended nearly 150 people to whom they applied a survey of risk factors for the development of chronic degenerative diseases, they also measured the waist and hip circumference, glucose, and the plasma level of cholesterol and triglycerides.
Finally, they oriented the visitors to UG's module on programs for activation and in case of having diabetes, they were invited for themselves to take control of their situation, "we advocate for no prohibitions, but an awareness based in knowledge so they can be their own caretakers", concluded Dr. Márquez.
On the other hand, the Division of Sciences and Engineering participated with a workshop called "Let's play with science" overseen by Dr. Xochitl Judith Sánchez Lozano, professor-researcher of the Division of Sciences and Engineering of the Department of Physics, who in company of degree and postgraduate students prepared games about the solar system, polymers, waves, thin movies, gravity, speed with races and balloons.
The intention is to discover the physical and chemical phenomena that happen in everyday life. During this activity, they received more than 150 children from five to eleven years old, accompanied by their mothers.
