Guanajuato, Gto., March 1, 2017.- Joaquín Gutiérrez Heras was a Mexican composer and scholar who abandoned the architecture degree to fully dedicate to music and become in one of the most outstanding Mexican composers.

For the sixth concert of their first season, the Symphonic Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato (OSUG) will make a lucent homage to such composer, interpreting the play "Ludus autumni" in commemoration to its fifth death anniversary.

As guest director, Christian Gohmer will please with his visit, who commented that "Ludus autumni" written by Gutiérrez Heras, "is very interesting due to its writing in the great inheritance that the composers Silvestre Revueltas and Carlos Chávez left, but with a more modern language in the harmonic way. It means, the rhythms are like what was heard in the post-revolutionary nationalist school."

He emphasized that in this work exists a quite attractive orchestral handling like the chamber music where some instruments accompany soloists of clarinet, oboe and trombone. The rest is composed of rhythmic and orchestral accompaniment textures.

The second piece that OSUG will play is "Petite Suite" of the French composer Claude Achilles Debussy. On the matter, the guest director commented "is an eerie impressionist music, easy to listen and nice to the ear.

This work has a technical, formal and discursive complexity that can be compared to the impressionist paintings which have shorter strokes, several color points on each other and a wide chromatic palette, this applies directly to music."

The concert will finish with the Symphony no.3 in E flat major, Op. 97 "Renana" of the German composer Robert Schumann. Christian Gohmer indicated that Schumann is the clearest and influencer background in Mahler, the great symphonist of the XX century.

Gohmer described the symphony: "the first movement is a varied sonnet that begins without introduction, directly to the point and with great power of communication from the first chord. Schumann is one of the first composers that begins to experiment with overtones or different volume in an instrument and another group of instruments at the same time. This kind of details were used in religious music, but Schumann introduces it for the first time with his symphonies."

This is the second time Gohmer takes the baton of OSUG, to which he referred as an orchestra that has the level and willingness to create a profound work in the music sheets, so he showed his enthusiasm to visit the city of Guanajuato again and lead a concert with OSUG.

This time, the concert will be held at 20:30hrs at the General Auditorium of the University of Guanajuato. Before the event, there will be a pre-concert talk at 19:30hrs, free entrance.
