Irapuato, Gto. a March 1, 2017.- As a sample of the self-management capability to improve their knowledge, the students of Agronomic Engineering of the Division of Life Sciences (DICIVA) of the University of Guanajuato (UG), have their Agronomy Week, which has the participation of experts and different universities.

They update in topics related to plagues and diseases in crops, plant genetics, soil analysis, watering and fertigation, agricultural machinery, greenhouse management, fruit production, climate change in agriculture and the formation of the Agronomist engineer.

Katia Saraí Ramírez Ortiz, student and member of the organizing committee, explained that UG, has been forming Agronomist Engineers for 42 years in Irapuato, whose educational program was the first in the area of Engineering to be accredited by the Mexican Committee for the Accreditation of the Agronomic Education.

During the inauguration of the Agronomy Week, the Department's director, Dr. Armando Rucoba García, made a call to the students to prepare as best as possible to be agents of change in society to improve the field's conditions and their social groups.

He reminded that on February 22, the first university in agricultural education was founded, the Universidad de San Jacinto, the first of its kind in Latin America, thanks to the vision of Lic. Benito Juárez García, former President of the Republic, who made the agronomist Melchor Ocampo responsible to start the first higher school of agriculture in our country. Successively other schools were formed such as the Irapuato one, that belongs to the University of Guanajuato.

On his part, the Director of the Division of Life Sciences, Dr. José Mario Mendoza Carrillo, said that currently the program of Agronomic Engineering is one of the most requested at DICIVA, and throughout the years, they have been forming a solid prestige for the quality of the professors and competencies of their graduates.
