Guanajuato, Gto., March 7, 2017.- Two students of the Master in Management, Administration and Government of the Division of Law, Politics and Government (DDPG) of Campus Guanajuato, obtained the first place as the winning team in an international contest on food security that developed in the University de Los Andes, in Bogota, Colombia.

We are talking about Carlos Manuel Valadez and Francisco Esquivel Hernández, who participated in the competition organized by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) under the topic "Food Security", fundamental aspect of the Sustainable Development Objectives (ODS) of UN.

Every year, NASPAA makes the global simulation contest for postgraduate students in public affairs and administration. In 2017, they associated with the School of Leadership and Public Affairs of Batten from Virginia University and organized the contest simultaneously, on February 25th, in eight venues around the world, one of them in Bogota.

The master degree students traveled to the Universidad de Los Andes to compete in a computer simulation where they developed topics such as famine eradication in the world, improve nourishment and sustainable agriculture, all looking towards 2030.

On the matter, M. Rosa María Pérez Vargas, Coordinator of the Master in Administration, Development and Government, celebrated the contest's results which place the University of Guanajuato (UG) as one of the top international scenarios, and of course, the pride for the students of Guanajuato who put their country high.

In an interview, Carlos Manuel Valadez reminded that the summon was issued on early February this year, and the competition was on the 25th, which left them with less than a month to prepare, but had the total support of M. Pérez Vargas and the bibliography provided so each one could propose solutions to the world's famine.

It was an extraordinary experience, --he said--, transcendent, since institutions with great prestige participated and finished second, such as Columbia University, Harvard Kennedy Scholl, Peace University, Princetown, but the teamwork was reflected.

Francisco Esquivel mentioned that NASPAA invited 175 programs related with public affairs or public administration around the world, among majors and masters, and the contest was made simultaneously in eight institutions, in Latin America were the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogota, Colombia (where they participated), another in China, another in the Netherlands and the rest in United States.

He explained that because the number of participants two groups were made, which they were called "two worlds", whose members were sorted and coincidently, both from Guanajuato were in the same group.

The team was composed by postgraduate students from the University of Guanajuato; Universidad EAFIT, Universidad de Los Andes, Universidad del Rosario and the Universidad Externado in Colombia; as well as Roger Williams University in the US.

Once the contest occurred, they knew they won at that level, meaning, among the participants at the Universidad Los Andes; but two days after they were notified that they have also won internationally, among 175 educational programs around the world.
