conmemora-ug-la-lucha-por-el-reconocimiento-de-los-derechos-de-las-mujeres.ugtoGuanajuato, Gto., March 8, 2017.- Today is a day for collective memory, to emphasize on a pending matter not only for the University, the state or the country, but to the world's interest, sustained the General Rector of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, during the ceremony to commemorate the International Women's Day, where they presented the report of the Institutional Program of Gender Equality.

The university commemoration included a series of academic activities, among them, a colloquium and a panel with the topic: "Las mujeres y la Constitución de 1917. Un siglo de transformaciones visibles", where experts, scholars and public servants, analyzed the role of the Mexican women in the last 100 years.

In his message, Dr. Guerrero made a recognition to who for centuries have tried to achieve more equal conditions and highlighted that there mustn't be a counter position between men and women, but a common fight for equality.

"It is not a fight between genders... We are together, men and women, in a super gender called humankind", concluded in his speech.

Previously, UG's Pro Vost, Dr. Héctor Efraín Rodríguez de la Rosa, presented the report of the Institutional Program of Gender Equality, where he detailed the process to elaborate a protocol of initial attention in cases of violence, creation and services offered by the UGénero's Office, is the training and sensitization of directors and personnel of the house of studies, as well as the link with UG with other public instances and social organisms.

Also, he showed some promotion and diffusion actions to build a respectful culture of the human rights, and revealed that there will be a diagnose that will allow to know which is the status of the institution in matter of gender equality.

Dr. Rodríguez reiterated UG's commitment to form humane professionals, hence, the update in the Institutional Development Plan (PLADI), in the axis of strengthening the institution, they have created the Priority Program of Human Rights. He informed that the process of the Normative Reform has made sure that the updates are done with gender perspective.

After the ceremony, the panel "Las mujeres y la Constitución de 1917. Un siglo de transformaciones visibles" began, where they reflected on the cultural and social changes that have created a different view of the role of women, where they are acknowledged of their rights and has seek to guarantee legally the access to the same opportunities men have.

Although progress was there, the analysts accepted that it is more about a forma equality –written in the Magus letter—since in practice there is a large gap, which discriminates, prevents developing competences and affects women and men.

The panelists were Dr. Julieta Morales Sánchez of the "Comisión Nacional de Derechos Humanos" (CNDH); Dr. Leonardo Valdés Zurita, Ex-President of "Instituto Nacional Electoral" (formerly IFE) and college professor; Dr. Patricia Ravelo Blancas, of the "Centro de Investigación de Estudios en Antropología Social" (CIESAS); Director of the "Instituto para las Mujeres Guanajuatenses", Lic. Anabel Pulido López and Dr. José Mendívil Macías Valadez, professor-researcher of UG.

At the commemoration of the International Women's Day was present the board of the house of studies, unipersonal authorities, professors, students and members of the university community.
