conferencia-cervantes-quijote-universidad-guanajuato-ug-ugto

Guanajuato, Gto., March 16, 2017.- "There is an absurd theory I heard years ago: you don't know what the Quijote is about, until you start crying", told Dr. Ángel Martínez de Lara in the talk "Cervantes, el Quijote y Don Quijote", which set the beginning of the Academic Project "Cervantino UG".

For an hour or joyful talking at the venue Valenciana of Campus Guanajuato of UG, Dr. Martínez spoke about Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, "curiosities of what could've been his biography", he said, about the history of the book –Don Quijote de la Mancha—and the story of the character.

This project is supported by the Academic Department of the house studies seeks to widen, systematize and strengthen the academic and cultural doing regarding the figure of Don Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra.

Dr. Benjamin Valdivia celebrated that the project began with the Dr. Martinez's conference; since the objective is to recover the Cervantine character that UG has encouraged within the city when, more than half a century ago, it was represented for the first time in the "Entremeses" at the San Roque Plaza.

The project wants the academic focus to have a place, he said, a home at UG and what better than the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities, especially linked to the academic programs of major and master degrees in languages and the doctorate in Spanish Literature, which in fact is about to begin.

He told that the project has a magazine, scholarships for young researchers, joint research projects with several institutions and a large quantity of elements to boost the Cervantine academic project which couldn't have had a better start that Martinez's conference, Doctor in Philosophy and Languages by the Universidad de Madrid, former graduate in Hispanic Philology in the Universidad Complutense and now a head professor at the Universidad de Loja, in Ecuador.

Dr. Andreas Kurz, Director of the Department of Spanish Letters, thanked Dr. Raúl Arias Lovillo, Academic Secretary of UG, for the opportunity to present this conference in the venue Valenciana and Dr. César Federico Macias Cervantes, Director of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities of Campus Guanajuato, for his generous contribution in the divulgation.

In his conference, Dr. Martinez spoke widely on the possible history of Miguel De Cervantes, uncertain and small chance of confirmation, since its supposed image, nothing gives credit that the different engravings and sculptures be or not his face, not even the bones unearthed in 2015 in the 400-year death anniversary, since there are bones from children and a woman, supposedly his wife.

"Cervantes didn't have higher education, it wasn't Quevedo, nor Lópe, nor Calderón, there isn't much about his life", he said, but surely, he wanted to be Quevedo and maybe Quevedo would have wanted to be Cervantes in death.

He reminded that Francisco Quevedo wrote "Amor constant, mas allá de la muerte" that for many is the worst love sonnet ever written: "...serán ceniza, mas tendrá sentido; polvo serán, mas polvo enamorado". But, Quijote wrote the letter to Dulcinea del Toboso.

Martinez de Lara thinks that when Don Quijote thinks to be ahead of Dulcinea and his perception is through enchantments, from there, the book "is a tale of melancholy" and Alonso Quijano become in "the knight of the sad figure."
