León, Gto., March 21, 2017.- The Mexican Council for the Accreditation of the Medical Education (COMAEM) granted the certificate of re-accreditation of the degree in Medical Surgeon of the University of Guanajuato (UG), which will be valid until 2022.
This is the fourth consecutive time that the quality of the educative program is accredited, which is taught at the Division of Health Sciences at Campus Leon of UG.
At the award ceremony, UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino pointed that this act lets society know where are the efforts and resources of a university community heading to, regarding a great academic, social and human transcendence program.
He remarked that health is one of the development pillars of a country, hence, it is fundamental to widen the coverage, quality and equity in the access to this service. As a university, we can't guarantee the access to health for everyone, but to quality, we can.
Hence, he recognized the teamwork of the academic staff, authorities and members of the university community who made possible to obtain this accreditation for the degree in Medical Surgeon.
Campus Leon Rector, Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez said to be proud of the quality of the educational program that COMAEM recognizes today and highlighted that in the University of Guanajuato not only do the best in the state are formed, "but also emerge the most committed medics with their society."
COMAEM's President, Dr. Zeta Melva Triana Contreras in a streaming message, highlighted that UG is part of a select group of accredited programs. "Today, there are 159 medicine programs registered in the country, and only 70 are accredited", meaning, 43%.
She explained that the accreditation is a public recognition, granted by COMAEM to the programs who cover the criteria, indicators and quality parameters established by this organism in areas such as infrastructure, organization, functioning, supplies, processes and, above all, results. "It means that the program has the appropriate objectives to offer quality medical education and has the sufficient resources to fulfill such objectives."
The Division's Director, Dr. Tonatiuh García Campos, exposed that forming human resources in health must do with quality and warmth, per the humanistic principles of the University of Guanajuato. "The accreditation is the achievement of all", and it is a mechanism that helps us deliver society better physicians, he added.
Dr. Monica del Carmen Preciado Puga, professor of the Department of Medicine and Nutrition, exposed their satisfaction to participate in a degree that throughout the years has characterized for forming professionals with high quality standards and rich in values. The greatest lesson of this process –he said—was to recognize that the re-accreditation is not an end, but the mean to continue making quality work.
Natalia Macías Muñoz, degree student, said to be proud of being part of UG and behalf of her classmates, she committed to try to maintain in the academic excellence and when she graduates, become in professionals who give society a high-quality service.
The re-accreditation process of the degree in Medical Surgeon began over a year ago, and included visits from the evaluators and an exhaustive review of the academic, administrative and operational aspects the program implies, as well as interviews with the students. It also included a self-evaluation where professors, students, administrative and service personnel intervened.
