León, Gto., March 23, 2017.- With the objective to analyze the prenatal diagnostic techniques and actions to reduce the risk factors during the pregnancy, in addition of improving the forecast after birth, there was a conference "Prenatal approach of the fetal pathology and correlation to birth", which had the participation of Dr. María de la Luz Bermúdez Rojas, gynecologist.

Dr. Bermúdez highlighted the importance of taking preventive measures that allow to reduce the risks of possible birth defects in the fetus during pregnancy, or, maternal risk factors. She also mentioned the work a health professional does must be timely to create the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of the patient with pathologies and improve the life quality of the mother and child.

In an interview, the speaker mentioned the recommendations couples who decided to have a child must consider, among which she mentioned taking folic acid, go to a health professional to check to pregnant woman, request a specialized ultrasonographic screening between the 11 and 13.6 weeks of the gestational age, a second screening between the 20 and 24 weeks and a third one between the 30 and 34 weeks, this will diminish up to 80% the possibility of a birth defect, in addition of reducing complications pre and after pregnancy.

Alan Ricardo Patlán Hernández, student of the Medical Surgeon degree of the University of Guanajuato (UG), commented in an interview the transcendence of sharing knowledge and acquiring tools to make better practices that contribute in improving the patients' health, as well as the importance to have in mind the psychosocial factors that influence in the quality of life of the population, such as consuming tobacco and alcohol during the gestational period.

The conference was presented by a joint effort between Campus Leon of UG, Central Branch of the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico and the Angels Hospital of Leon.
