
León, Gto., a 23 de marzo de 2016.- With the purpose to share perspectives, the forum "Mexico, a cultural country? was held at Campus Leon of the University of Guanajuato (UG), with the participation of Dr. Carlota Meneses, scholar from the Department of Cultural Studies; M. Ariel Rodríguez Vázquez, Director of the Latin American Exchange Center; and Dr. Joel Padilla Córdova, Director of the Cultural Forum Guanajuato, as panelists.
The space proposed to discuss about the culture and its role in the contemporary society, the attendants listened to the analysis of each one of the experts, who reflected on the role institutions have in the diffusion.
To open the cycle, M. Ariel Rodríguez spoke about the richness in traditions and history of Mexico, same that marked as abundant and ancient, but has also suffered mutations and deformations propitiated by political, social and cultural factors. An example of this, according M. Rodríguez, is the well-known "narco-culture", that for thousands of young people is an aspiration, and the same happens with the desire to live a similar lifestyle as the American.
All this, he highlighted, is because the mediatic apparatus that seek a cultural domination who favors elite and politic circles. In his opinion, the government must invest more in cultural programs, since these are a valuable tool to help redo the social weaving.
Dr. Padilla Córdova, who has a wide trajectory as cultural manager, spoke about a social diagnosis to which he referred as desolating; however, he is positive for a future where the cultural diffusion is the vehicle of social change, according his words, "culture generates survival, empathy and encounter". He left clear, that the role of the institutions is not being culture generators, since this is generated daily by society, but is up for the organisms to be the "speakers" of the same.
Dr. Carlota Meneses, who was the main promoter of the evet, closed the participations by reading a text of her own. In it, she mentions the urgency that the culture, its conservation and diffusion become a real priority for the political actors and don't goes to a second or third place. She mentioned that the cultural development in our country, is still in the design stage and the panorama is not good, since the budgets for this area have been reduced.
The session concluded with the intervention of the public through a dynamic of question and answers which had a lot of participation. Besides, the golden closure that the gift for the attendants, which were books of different topics.
