
Salamanca, Gto. March 24, 2017.- The Division of Engineering (DICIS) of the University of Guanajuato, opened its doors to students from the different high schools, to invite them to form their life in the engineering field and contribute to the scientific and technological development.
The event called "Women in Engineering" which gathered students from Salamanca, had the support of college students who belong to the Student Branch of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Mexican Association of Mechanical Engineers (SOMIM) and the Pi Tau Sigma Fraternity, of the Rectory of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca and the Division of Engineering of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca.
Municipal and university authorities received the female visitors, with the purpose to encourage them to continue their higher education in a field that allows creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation.
ASME representatives, Natali Ruiz and Giselle Villafuerte, and the secretary of the Pi Tau Sigma fraternity, Ana Gallardo, are leadership role models of the women in the field of engineering. Here, Natalia Ruiz shared her personal experience as a student in the Division where they are forming with enthusiasm, effort and dedication.
The Rector of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, Dr. Armando Gallegos Muñoz, highlighted that in the venue Salamanca study 1,943 men and 784 women, so they have the challenge for more female students to interest for the educational programs at DICIS.
He referred that in 1984, only 283 women belong to the National System of Researchers. Today, the number ascends to more than seven thousand women, which represents a 35% of the national researchers.
"Women in Engineering" also gathered Dr. Victor Ayala Ramírez, Director of the Division of Engineering; Dr. Rocío Alfonsina Lizárraga, Academic Secretary of the Division of Engineering; Dr. Elías Ledesma Orozco, Director of the Department of Mechanics; Dr. Jesús Raúl Lugo Martínez, Academic Secretary of the High School College and Lic. Esteban Martínez Hernández, General Director of Culture, Education, Sports and Attention to youth.
