León, Gto., March 27, 2017.- While giving the Annual Report of 2016, the Rector of Campus Leon of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez, highlighted the academic excellence that distinguishes the community, as well as the important labor of the liaison it has with governmental and educational institutions to answer the social demands.

Dr. Hidalgo recognized the joint work of the university community, the talent and effort from the students and the high capabilities of the professors to develop the functions of teaching, research and innovation who have contributed to forge the prestige of the Campus, at the same time he mentioned that this event represents an opportunity to reflect on the areas of opportunity.

In its three divisions: Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities and Sciences and Engineering, the campus holds 4,760 students and 118 professors who generate 251 research products.

In 2016, there was a big boost to liaison, as a result, collaboration agreements were established with the Department of Public Safety of Leon; with the Instituto de la Juventud Guanajuatense; they named Campus Leon as member of the Citizen table of Safety and Justice in the city and the Campus became the host of the International Cervantine Festival.

Also stand out the bonds with sister institutions, such as the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), through the Escuela Nacional de Estudios Superiores Unidad Leon, and the Centro de Investigaciones en Óptica (CIO), which gave origin to the First Festival of Arts, Sciences and Humanities, held in coordination with the State Government.

While giving, a message representing the university community, UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, mentioned that "working in community means to recognize us as diverse" and highlighted the enormous strength that the plurality of voices, profiles and opinions generate.

He reminded that Campus Leon has a great tradition in health, and it also has a Division of Sciences and Engineering which represents a great strength not only for the Campus, but for all UG and even the scientific community of the country because of the high-level research done there.

On the other hand, he recognized that the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities was a concern of the University to take this academic offer to Leon, where since their creation has done a great contribution to society. The challenge now, is for the graduates of this programs to not only find jobs, but generate them.

Also, he celebrated the tight celebration of Campus Leon with sister educational institutions, because "what this country needs is collaboration, and education, science and technology is a collective heritage", he highlighted.

Because all this, he considered there are elements to celebrate and feel proud for the work and the goals achieved, and made an extensive knowledge to all the members of the community: professors, students, administrators and service personnel.

Previously, Dr. Lorena del Carmen Álvarez Castañon, of the Department of Social Studies referred to the individual and collective achievements that prove the work done by the community in the campus, as well as the increase in the enrollment of professors and students, and emphasized the importance to be prepared to face the challenges that the institution faces in the actual context.

As a representative of the student community, Guadalupe Sotelo Serna, highlighted two important achievements: the number of students at campus Leon who have participated in mobility programs, has risen in 357%, and the activities that influence in the comprehensive formation, as the practice of sports, which increased by 43%.

The student of the Department of Physics Engineering expressed the pride it is to be part of UG and exhorted all the university authorities to support the development of science and technology from the academy, since they are fundamental for the country's growth.
