Guanajuato, Gto., March 28, 2017.- In 2016, the High School College (CNMS) enrollment increased a 24.5%, and the numerous recognitions obtained by the students of this subsystem of the University of Guanajuato (UG) prove the academic excellence that distinguishes the ten schools that compose it.
That is what the CNMS's Director, Dr. J. Merced Rizo-Carmona revealed in his First Activity Report, who at the beginning, mentioned that even when is not required by the university regulation, it was necessary to make this exercise to provide account rendition to inform about the academic work and handling of the public resources.
After months of his appointment, he said to have found a work team willing to assume the commitment of comprehensive education; while recognizing the work of his predecessor, QFB. Martha Oliva Gallaga Ortega, who coordinated the efforts who led part of the achievements reached in 2016.
In addition of the enrollment increase, which hit 13,251 students in the eleven venues of the high schools, stand out the results from knowledge Olympics.
Like so, they obtained 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal in the XXV National Olympics of Chemistry; won the first four places in the XVIII State Contest of Basic Sciences for High Students in the Instituto Tecnológico de León; a gold medal in the XIII International Olympics of Logics; gold and bronze medals in the State Fair of Science and Technology; silver medal in the event called "Infomatrix International" in Expo-sciences in Ecuador; and a silver medal in the XXX Mexican Olympics of Mathematics.
In the test of the Plan Nacional para la Evaluación de los Aprendizajes (PLANEA), UG's high schools were placed above the state and national average obtaining a 73.62 in reading comprehension and a 62.38 in mathematics.
Regarding the comprehensive formation of the students, in the promotion of culture and arts, we advanced with creating the catalogue of artistic groups, which now sum 71, and the catalogue of CNMS spaces, edited by the Direction of Cultural Extension.
Each one of these triumphs, said Dr. Rizo-Carmona, had the support of the joint work of all the community. And, even when he celebrated the CNMS's indicators to be superior that the state and national average, considered necessary to work in strategic projects to consolidate the bivalent baccalaureate, defeat lag and desertion, as well as to consolidate artistic, sports, cultural and artistic programs.
The intention, he sustained, is to place CNMS as the best educational option in high education in coverage and quality.
UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, reiterated that this report is not a legal requirement, however, the event marks a great moment of identity and account knowledge, hence, he congregated the directors' team, professors, students and administrators.
New high school will be created
Dr. Guerrero-Agripino referred to the transcendence the high school subsystem represents for UG, therefore, he announced that starting from next Monday, will begin the works in the Planning Commission of the University's General Council, to create the HS Moroleón, with the intention for this facility to stop being the venue of the School of Pénjamo; this is an initiative of Dr. J. Merced Rizo-Carmona.
The General Rector made a balance of what the achieved goals represent during a year's work, and emphasized that part of these were done under the leadership of M. Martha Gallaga, who he recognized her for her contributions to CNMS.
He made the recognition extend to all the members of the community of the CNMS, because the report proves team work, not only from the directors, he highlighted.
At the ceremony were present: UG's Pro Vost, Dr. Héctor Efraín Rodríguez de la Rosa; the President of the Board, M. Martha Leticia Velázquez Morales; directors from the ten high schools, representatives of the collegiate organs and professors, students, administrative and service personnel from UG.
