Irapuato, Gto., March 29, 2017.- During the Annual Report of Activities, the Rector of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Armando Gallegos Muñoz, highlighted the academic quality of professors and students –renowned nationally and internationally—as well as the enrollment growth, as well as the generation of projects that contribute to the solution of surrounding problems and reinforce the links with the social sector.

Among the most relevant achievements during 2016, he mentioned the 9% growth of the enrollment, which reached 5,423 students. Two specialties were created: Pediatric Nursing and Surgical-Medical Nursing; the master degrees in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, kept the international quality recognition in the census of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt).

As proof of the "value of our community", Dr. Gallegos mentioned that 132 students of the campus participated in stays and congresses in 16 countries, 3,031 students are involved in internationalization activities. Also, obtained national and international awards in academic contests, of entrepreneurism, green energies, audiovisual productions and sports.

The quality of the educational programs attracted 222 foreign students, from nine different countries, inscribed in some program of the Campus which has presence in Irapuato, Salamanca, Yuriria and Tierra Blanca.

"Indisputably, one the great strengths are the scientific and technological contribution, hence, we received 44 MDP of external financing in research, impacting in areas of health, animal field, ecology, genetics, and the industry that requires electronic innovations, robotics, and optical systems", revealed Dr. Gallegos.

Likewise, he cleared that this report comprehends the work of two administrations, the one of Dr. Ernesto Camarena Aguilar, who was Rector of Campus until September last year and to whom he recognized his leadership.

A fundamental area in the doing of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca is the link with society, hence, professors and students participated in more than 15 high social impact projects in health, agro-alimentary, ecology and rural, mainly.

"Our commitment is to encourage those activities that allow us to be transforming agents in the central, southeast and northeast regions of Guanajuato", assured the Rector of Campus while talking about the challenges they face, some of which are to increase the degree completion index, optimize services, encourage the incubation of university businesses, form a new generation of extensions and generate additional resources.

To achieve this, he completely trusted in the capability of the community member to whom he congratulated for their work.

UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, sustained that this Campus began because the liaison with the social sectors, which allows to define where to orient the educational offer, and answer the needs of the environment with applied research projects.

Dr. Guerrero made a brief background of the beginnings of the Division of Sciences and Engineering and the Division of Life Sciences, and how it extended the presence to Yuriria and then the northeast part of the state, with the creation of the Interdisciplinary Center of the Northeast of the University of Guanajuato (CINUG). At the same time, he emphasized in how each one of the venues has created strong bonds with the communities they are located in.

Given the calling of the campus, UG's General Rector considered that some opportunity areas are a tighter work with the Mexican Center of Renewable Energies (CEMER) and Techno Park. He also called to strengthen the capabilities according the new Educational Model, he reminded: "being in the University is a constant learning."

On behalf of UG, he expressed his congratulations to all who are part of the community of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca for the achieve goals, as well as to those who preceded the current administration and contributed to obtain this results, such as former Rectors Dr. Ernesto Alfredo Camarena Aguilar and Dr. René Jaime Rivas.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the student community, spoke M. Marco Antonio Miranda Cruz, doctorate students in Electric Engineering, who sustained that his stay at UG has transformed his life and allowed him to reaffirm everything you can achieve by working.

Representing the academic staff, Dr. Ma. del Rosario Abraham Juárez, Director of the Food Department, mentioned that UG emerged to answer society's demands, and celebrated that throughout history has maintained that spirit. She applauded the joint effort that has positioned the Campus and exhorted the students to maintain its enthusiasm so they continue being the motivation of their professors.

The event was held at the venue Copal of DICIVA. The board of director, representatives of collegiate organs, professors, students and representatives of the government were present.
