
León, Gto., March 31, 2017.- With the purpose to dialogue, reflect and confront ideas about a social phenomenon which is present in several entities of the country, there was a round table "Violence against women and the femicide problem in Mexico" which had the participation of professors-researchers of Campus León of the University of Guanajuato (UG), the Universidad Iberoamericana venue Leon, also, a member of the Mexican Psychoanalytic Circle.
The exposers proposed their perspective parting from the concept of femicide and the way this crime is stereotyped in the Mexican legal system, and the way authorities determine if there was or not gender reason in the homicides.
Likewise, they laid on the table several topics about violence executed against women where it can be found the psychologic, sexual, patrimonial, labor, domestic, institutional violence among others. The exposers agreed that in femicide and violence against women are multi-cause phenomena produced in the public ambiance and the private, and in environments where they identify faults in the family and social structure.
Dr. Aurora Zavala Caudillo, academic of the Department of Social Studies of Campus Leon, presented the results of her research done together with UG students, where they counted 198 homicides in the state of Guanajuato from 2008 to 2017, with circumstances that qualifies them as femicide, per the criteria specified by the Federal Criminal Code. In an interview, she mentioned the importance of addressing the topic and present themes that contribute to the construction of a better society, respect and tolerance.
Dr. Erika Carcaño Valencia, ascribed to the Department of Social Studies, presented the case of violence against the indigenous women where she made an analysis of the different strategies and programs implemented by the government in indigenous communities focused on preventing and attending gender violence and their social impact.
The event had the participation of Dr. Adriana Alcaraz, Dr. Ma. de la Luz Manríquez Ortega, Dr. Omar Aquiles Ávila Quijas, Dr. Ángel Serrano Sánchez, Dr. Gustavo Garabito Ballesteros. The person responsible for the final comments was Dr. Alejandro Klein Caballero, director of the Department of Public Management and Development, who commented about the transcendence of opening these spaces for dialogue and widen the panorama of the social problems.
