
Guanajuato, Gto., April 7, 2017.- The program of Reading Encouragement in the Centers of Social Reinsertion of the State (CERESO a.k.a. Prisons), includes the recording of the favorite texts of the inmates, to be transmitted in Radio UG every Wednesday at 17:20hrs.
Such capsules have the name "Voz en libertad" (Freedom voice) and are done according the agreement the University of Guanajuato has, to influence in the construction of an inclusive and democratic society.
This is an initiative of the Coordinator of Reading Encouragement of Campus León, Prof. Jesús Antonio Borja Pérez, who explained that the project emerged in September 2016, and in the first stage, they visited ten CERESOS of the state to read fragments of "El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha" and related texts, to commemorate the 400 years of Cervantes' work.
The second stage was selecting the texts of the interns to record them and transmit them in Radio University of Guanajuato. Worthy to say, in addition of the support from Campus León, this project also has the support of the state government.
Borja Pérez mentioned: "It is highly satisfactory that the University of Guanajuato supports this project because reading in the CERESOS has allowed us to create work groups where the freedom of expression and joy to read leads to moments of reflection where people find the appropriate space to create and be confident that their work is valued and respected".
To be able to make the activities with no obstacles, the support from the Penitentiary System's General Direction and the responsible of the educational areas of each center.
Lastly, Master Jesús Antonio Borja, mentions with pride that, in January, thanks to the support of the students from High School Guanajuato, 150 books were donated to the library of female area in the CERESO of Guanajuato.
In addition, he added that "this project is done thanks to the support of many authorities that have given me their trust to continue, from the state governor, the Secretary of Safety, UG's General Rector, and Rector of Campus León, the Regents of the H. City Hall of Guanajuato, Silvia Rocha Miranda and Ana Gabriela Cárdenas and congress man Alejandro Navarro Saldaña".
Likewise, Prof. Jesús Antonio Borja Pérez, makes another reading encouragement activity Wednesdays from 10:00 to 14:00 in the Bicentennial Park, where he receives groups from different ages to read a special selection of Cervantes' "El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha".
