Prior to the activity, students of second and fourth terms offered a talk to more than 40 children and parents gathered in the place, to whom they explained the importance of plants, as well as the environmental services they give to our environment.

Led by the engineer Pedro Méndez Vázquez, responsible of this initiative, CINUG's students explained that the pollinating gardens represent an opportunity to maintain the diversity of insects, provide food to local and migrant insects, and this season one of the greatest benefits is the Monarch Butterfly (Danaus plixippus) who returns to its Mexican winter shelter (states of Mexico and Michoacán) headed north.

Therefore, these gardens must have a variety of plants with color flowers, which produce nectar. The pollinators feed on this nectar and during their travel, they transport pollen from one flower to another, allowing the plants to produce fruits.

The activity's objective is to promote the development of thinking in children; to be aware and be speakers of the importance and preservation of the flora and fauna that impacts into creating a true environmental culture.

The garden, composed by lavender, salvia, astraea and liliaceous will be taken care by kindergarten students, professors and parents who participate in the activity.

With these actions, the University of Guanajuato reaffirms its institutional commitment through the interaction with society and activities that have an impact on the extension and generation of knowledge.
