Guanajuato, Gto., April 24, 2017.- The University of Guanajuato (UG) will host the XXVIII National Encounter of the Mexican Association of Researchers of the Communication (AMIC), which will gather 250 speakers and more than 120 students on the next April 28 and 29, at the Central Building of the House of Studies.
This time, the theme of the encounter will be "Communication and Democratic Crisis in Mexico", which will be addressed from a multidisciplinary focus, since it is organized by AMIC and UG, through the Division of Law, Politics and Government (DDPG).
On the matter, Dr. Ma. Aidé Hernández García, researcher ascribed to the Department of Political Studies and one of the organizers of the Encounter, revealed that the event began as something small, but finally doubled the participants they were expecting and now they have an attractive program.
The academy explained that although UG doesn't offer the major in Communication, the event was supported because there are common topics in this discipline and Political Science.
On April 28th, there will be a master conference "The network society" by the renowned political strategist Sergio José Gutiérrez, who has been awarded internationally with prizes such as Victory Awards –considered the Oscar of the political communication—, has obtained five Reed prizes –which recognize the best of political consulting and government practices of Mexico and Latin America—. In addition, he has handled the social network in 33 government campaigns and is responsible of the digital activism of the President of the Republic, Enrique Peña Nieto.
There will also be a political journalism panel, "it is a topic that it is not outside the political science, it has to with freedom –freedom of speech, freedom of press—and are right we work with, citizenship. It means, we share topics, political science and communication", mentioned Dr. Hernández.
On Friday, as master speaker will be Raúl Trejo Delarbre, considered an institution of communication in Mexico, who will address the topic "Democratic skepticism and media in dispute in post-truth times". The scholar of UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) is a member of the National Researchers Systems (SNI) with Level III, author of 17 books and National Award of Journalism.
Among the activities, stand out the table "Cherán and the communication media". Representatives of the autonomous community will be present, with which UG has "an interesting and important relationship", mentioned Dr. Hernández, who detailed that they have a community radio, and their participation proves the plurality there is in Mexico.
Another relevant topic to be addressed is "Women and political violence", a topic that for both communication and political science, is new and will be analyzed by politicians such as Pilar Ortega and Diva Gastelum.
At the National Encounter, 250 posters will be analyzed in 21 work groups, which will work with related topics with new technologies, communication and politics, civil society, communication policies, public media, intercultural communication, research theories and methodologies in communication, among others.
The event will also be the framework of book presentations such as "Migration: juvenile views from communication", "Masculinities", "Trump and other challenges". "Political Communication and Civic commitment in Mexico: Media, campaigns and their impact in the attitudes and the civic participation in the presidential election of 2012".
