León, Gto., April 26, 2017.- With the purpose to present research related to chronic degenerative diseases, as well as analyzing its social and scientific impact; the XVII Medical Sciences International Reunion of Campus Leon of the University of Guanajuato (UG) was inaugurated.

For three days, April 26 to 28, there will be conferences, workshops, free work and presentation of scientific posters addressing topics such as nourishment, lifestyles, exercise, life quality of patients with diabetes and hypertension, as well as elders. The participating universities are Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, Universidad Veracruzana & Universidad de Guadalajara.

At the opening were present university authorities and representatives of health institutions. In his message, Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez, Rector of Campus León, mentioned the importance of this academic spaces, which is generated with the intention to present and discuss the results from research in health.

Likewise, he remarked its multidisciplinary feature, since the event "is led equally by students, professors and researchers, medics, nutritionists, psychologists, inside and outside the University of Guanajuato, condition that strengthens this type of scenarios, granting a particular value in the professional networks that configure this Medical Sciences reunion."

Dr. Moisés Andrade Quezada, Sub-secretary of health, referred the transcendence that the Department he represents is present in the research of the University of Guanajuato. He highlighted the challenges of the Public Health State Institute of Guanajuato (ISAPEG) facing the chronic untransmissible illnesses, as well as the psychosocial illnesses –such as suicide—. He finalized with the commitment from the state government to tightly work with UG in benefit of all citizens.

The members of the presidium were Dr. Arturo Lara López; Secretary of Innovación, Ciencia y Educación Superior del Estado de Guanajuato; Dr. Mauro Napsuciale Mendivil, Director of Apoyo a la Investigación y Posgrado of the University of Guanajuato; M. Cipriana Caudillo Cisneros, Academic Secretary of the Division of Health Sciences; Dr. Maciste Habacuc Macías Cervantes, Director of the Department of Medical Sciences; Dr. María Eugenia Garay Sevilla, Professor-Researcher of the Department of Medical Sciences and General Coordinator of the Organizing Committee.

At the end of the protocolary event, Dr. Arturo Lara gave a master conference titled "Innovation in research" space where he presented the main actions and areas that compose the Department of Innovation, Science and Higher Education, he also included the next year's goals and presented numbers on the position the state of Guanajuato has in the National Census of Quality Postgraduates (PNPC), in the National Researchers System (SNI), in the National Registry of Institutions and Scientific and Technological Companies (RENIECyT), as well as he patent requests.

He added an abstract of the intelligent specialization areas for Science and Innovation which he grouped in: automotive and auto parts, sustainable food industry, supplying, leather, shoe, textile, fashion and design and lastly, cosmetics, pharmacy and health services. To conclude, he invited all to approach the department he leads for support in the tight relationship they have with government, society, academy and business.
