Guanajuato, Gto., April 25, 2017.- The graduate from the major in Chemistry of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Said Jalife Jacobo, is one of the 10 Mexican students that have been selected to assist the 67 Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting.

This meeting is important event, since more than 30 researchers who have received the Chemistry Nobel Laureate will travel to Germany, who will give conferences and share experiences with approximately 400 students from around the world.

The graduate of the University of Guanajuato expressed his enthusiasm to assist the important event, which he mentioned, is done every year at Lindau, Germany. At the same time, he thanked his advisor Dr. Gabriel Merino, to support him in his path as researcher and thanked the Mexican Society of Sciences for providing the resources to travel to Germany.

Said Jalife Jacobo was chosen from a summon: "the selection process is quite thorough, it has two stages. The first is a filter done by the Mexican Academy of Sciences, to which you must send a resume, recommendation letters, cover letters, etc. Then, the second stage, the Academy postulates and send the documents to Lindau's committee, where they review aspects on the research that the youth develops, their motivation for science and their academic trajectory."

One of the main purposes of the meeting –to be held on June 25-30—is to propitiate the dialogue between the laureate community and the selected students to exchange points of view, and above all, learn of the progress that change the way chemistry is conceived.

In addition of the several talks granted by the Nobel Laureates, there will be a section of scientific posters and social activities to promote the coexistence of the international community. They also will develop discussion forums and scientific coffee talks, just to mentions some activities.

The graduate highlighted that his academic formation at the University of Guanajuato provided him the necessary tools to learn Chemistry and the necessary knowledge to continue growing as a researcher in the postgraduate, reason why he considers public education to be highly necessary for science to continue developing in our country.

Today, Said Jalife Jacobo is a doctorate student specialized in Physics-Chemistry, of the Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados del Instituto Politécnico NacionAL (Cinvestav) Unit Mérida, and recently made a residency in Calgary University, Canada, under the supervision of Dennis Salahub, as a visitor students of the Scholarship Program for Emerging Leaders in the Americas (ELAP).
