Guanajuato, Gto. Mayo 1, 2017.- The Rugby team of the University of Guanajuato (UG) obtained the third place in the University National Championship 2017 held at the Universidad Iberoamericana de Puebla de los Ángeles.

At the elimination round, the rugby team "Abejas" got a victory over the Tigres of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), and got defeated by the squad of the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrery (ITESM) unit Puebla, and finally defeated, for the third place, the team from ITESM Guadalajara.

The participation of UG's team was achieved after obtaining, past March 16th, in the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) unit Silao, the qualifying by winning the zone, obtaining the right participate in the national final, facing important organizations such as the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila, IBERO Puebla, IPN, ITESM Guadalajara, ITESM Puebla, and UANL.

It is worthy to mention that the best position reached by UG's rugby team in 2012 in this kind of events, was the sixth place in Guadalajara, so the actual participation conquers what has been done by the representative team so far.

The coach Dr. José de Jesús Álvarez Herrera, said to be satisfied with the result, highlighting the work and effort of their members, as well as the support of the institution to continue encouraging this discipline from which UG is pioneer in the country with 40 years of presence in Rugby forums.
