Guanajuato, Gto., May 11, 2017.- Under the direction of Dr. Germán Labrador López de Azcona, finalized the workshop "De la Pantomima a la tonadilla: cuatro géneros de la música teatral y su puesta en escena" (From pantomime to the tune: four genres of theatric music and its stage), where students from the Division of Architecture, Art and Design (DAAD) of the University of Guanajuato (UG) participated.
The workshop was made within the academic activities derives from the specific agreement of collaboration of the DAAD's Dept. of Music with the Inter-Faculty Dept. of Music of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
It was directed by Dr. Labrador López de Azcona, and they play was held in the Arts Building, at the "Manuel de Elías" Hall, with the attendance, among other authorities, of Dr. Ramón Alvarado Angulo, Director of UG's Dept. of Music.
In an interview, Dr. Labrador explained that in the scenario you could appreciate several musical plats, almost all from the XVIII century, some with orchestra and others with a reduced accompaniment; as well as the declamation theater, singing theater and pantomime.
He explained that the plays are from little known authors and composers, but among them there was entremeses of Antonio de Zamora, two tunes (little operas in three numbers), one of which had music from Pablo de Esteve and another of Antonio González, who were known composers in the theaters of Madrid in the XVIII century.
Dr. López de Azcona revealed that practically in all the cases the authorship of the text is anonymous, since there are thousands of tunes written in that time; but also, presented a melodrama called "Inés de Castro", with music of Luciano Francisco Comella (1751-1812), a popular dramaturge and the music, probably of Blas de la Serna, an important musical theater composer.
Pantomime went slightly off the chronology and time, he said, because it is a work circa 1940 and consists in a recovery of fragments of the author Walter Nymann, very interesting music that refers to the German impressionism and very popular at that time, but was forgotten.
Dr. Germán Labrador considered that it was an interesting experience for the students of Arts and Music of Campus Guanajuato, who concreted thanks to the agreement with the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, which reoriented to the teacher collaboration and exchange, for which in October this year, professors and students of piano and composition will travel to Madrid.
He even voted so in 2018 they can continue with the exchange, since young Spaniards could come to Guanajuato, since it is a city with a university ambience and attractive study programs, artistic activities and adequate infrastructure.
