León, Gto., May 13, 2017.- Campus Leon of the University of Guanajuato (UG) was the scenario to present the book "Decidir desde tierra lejana. El voto de los mexicanos residentes en el extranjero. Los casos de Michoacán, Ciudad de México y Chiapas", which derived from the doctoral thesis of Dr. Abel Muñoz Pedraza, head of the Unidad Técnica del Voto de los Guanajuatenses Residentes en el Extranjero (UTVGRE) of the Instituto Electoral del Estado de Guanajuato (IEEG).
In an interview, Dr. Abel Muñoz mentioned the importance to offer the readers a work that allows to transform reality and motivate participation of the citizens in electoral processes in different entities of the country, know the political rights and provide a panorama of the extraterritorial suffrage that –in his own words—goes back to the electoral process of 1929, where José Vasconcelos was a candidate for president of the republic by the Partido Nacional Antireelecionista (PNA) and took his campaign to cities in United States, approaching the Mexican community in that country.
The author mentioned that the book offers a vision of the three entities that celebrated the vote in another country; two for governor of chief of government –in the cases of Michoacán and Mexico City—and one more for migrant congressman –in Chiapas—. "Mexico is a country with many migrants and those people don't leave their community, their state and country, and it is important for them to retake the part of the political rights and be researching on the topic", he delved.
In his research, he described how the political culture of the migrants of Michoacán, Mexico City and Chiapas, who are living in Los Angeles, Ca., was reflected in the extraterritorial elections to choose local authorities.
At the event were present: Dr. Alex Caldera Ortega, Director of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities; Dr. Rubén Ramírez Arellano, Professor-researcher of the Department of Social Studies of Campus León and IEEG representatives.
