León, Gto., May 16, 2017.- With the purpose to reflect on discrimination and in the International Day against homophobia, lesbian phobia and transphobia, the Institutional Program of Gender Equality of the University of Guanajuato (UGénero), there was an opinion panel and conference held at the venue San Carlos of Campus León.

The panel was called "Manifestaciones de la homofobia, lesbofobia y transfobia en México" and the participants were Dr. Armando Javier Diaz Camarena, renowned activist in the organization "Omeyocán: Psicoterapia, sexología y desarrollo S.C."; Dr. Ericka López Sánchez, professor-researcher at Campus Guanajuato; M. Federico Carlos Alberto Ruenes Torres, doctorate students in Social Sciences at Campus Leon; M. Abraham Nemesio Serrato Gúzman, Coordinator of the UGénero Program, and Dr. Luis Sánchez Mier who was the moderator of the table.

First, the participants gave their opinion on the concept of phobia, parting from the idea that is fear to lose order, and from there they discussed about phobias who origin on the sexual orientation of the people.

One of the main topics at the table was: How does discrimination expresses in Mexico? On the matter, the panel members commented the without a doubt is through murders, but it is also reflected in the working context, since the executive positions aren't usually offered for members of the LGBT community.

They added that the public institutions tend to orient towards hetero-normativity, influencing in the current public policies.

From the previous, they reached the conclusion that violence and the privation of human rights are the worst consequences of the discrimination towards this group.

In the Q&A space, the attendants questioned the actions the University must do to brake the hetero-patriarchal order since the academy, and from this reflection they agreed that the main thing is not to overlook the hetero-normativity, and for the teachers to aware of the messages they are sending to their students, since it is necessary to identify in them several life forms.

At the end of the panel, Dr. Armando Díaz Camarena, dictated the conference titles "Hate crimes for homophobia and transphobia", where he shared the definition of the terms, besides of commenting on the role religion has in the construction of sexuality.

He presented trans and homosexual murder cases in our country, as well as the places where the bodies were found, highlighting it was on the victims' homes, wastelands, work, hotels or motels, or even crops.

He also offered information on the countries where it is illegal to be homosexual and even punished by jail, such as Trinidad & Tobago, Granada, Guyana, Jamaica, Barbuda, Africa and some regions of Asia and Oceania.

He closed his participation inviting the student community to create spaces to understand in depth the stories, the family context and life experiences that every member of the LGBT community has.
