May 22, 2017.- A delegation of the Texas A&M University participated in an academic-cultural exchange with Campus Irapuato-Salamanca of the University of Guanajuato, sharing the interest in the work they do to improve the agricultural sector and the environment.

Dr. Gerald Riskowski, professor of the School of Agriculture of Texas University, accompanied by 11 students of the Department of Biology, Agriculture and Life Sciences, led the visitor group during their one-week stay in Guanajuato.

This exchange which is made periodically for the past 19 years, strengthen the bonds between both institutions, gives the students a new perspective of the potential the state of Guanajuato has in agriculture and the participation it has with the public university in priority topics such as water, health, energy and ecology.

The Texan delegation visited the research spaces of the Division of Life Sciences located in El Copal in Irapuato and the Division of Engineering, in Palo Blanco, Salamanca, where they could meet the main research lines of this Campus developed by the Departments of Food, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Mechanics and Renewable Energies.

The field visits covered the wastewater treatment plant in Irapuato, food and drink companies in Pénjamo and Irapuato and a metal mechanic industry in Guanajuato. At the University of Guanajuato, the delegation spoke with the General Secretary, Dr. Raúl Arias Lovillo, who considered that the universities are a bridge for the students to have international experiences and have a global perspective.

As closure, the Texan students participated in a panel, where they mentioned their experiences and the reaches of the program, highlighting that the industries in Guanajuato passed their expectations and thank the hospitality of the Mexican students who fostered them in their homes.

They checked the similarities in the knowledge areas that are taught at the University of Guanajuato and Texas A&M, proving that science is the same anywhere in the world.
