
Guanajuato, Gto., May 23, 2017.- From May 23 to 26, it is held the XXVII International Cervantine Colloquium and the VI edition of the Cervantine Artistic Journeys, events with the purpose to reflect, from the hand of connoted specialists, regarding validity, influence and future of the Castellan immortal classic.
Organized by the State Government, through the Iconographic Museum of the Quijote (MIQ for its acronym in Spanish), the University of Guanajuato (UG), the Cervantine Foundation "Eulalio Ferrer", A.C. and the Center of Cervantine Studies, this year's topic of the Cervantine Colloquium is "Courtiers background in Cervantes."
The Cervantine Artistic Journeys are composed by a cultural program which includes expositions, plastic works and bibliography regarding the figure of Quijote, chamber & symphonic music concerts, as well as theater plays.
In the opening ceremony, UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, expressed his recognition and gratitude to Don Eulalio Ferrer, because "without him, without (Enrique) Ruelas, Guanajuato wouldn't have the Quijotesque Cervantine imprint" which is characterized for.
Talking about the colloquium's topic, he considered there must be an academic openness to the history graphic, political, philosophical and anthropological study, regarding the Conquest as a historical event, since the presence of Cortés and Cervantes has made possible what today is Spanish America and Mexicanity.
To finalize, he expressed that "the language of Cervantes isn't just an instrument to communicate, it is a vehicle of cultural identification, of definition, of identity, of identities", and he acknowledged himself as reader who sees in El Quijote "wells of knowledge."
Representing the state governor, Lic. Miguel Márquez Márquez, attended the Secretary of Education in Guanajuato, M. Eusebio Vega Pérez, who also highlighted that "the knight of the sad figure" lives in the capital thanks to the work of Don Eulalio Ferrer.
He added that the colloquium's objective is to encourage and keep alive the work of Cervantes, "that in every edition allows us to get near the the heart of the Quijote."
On her part, the Rector of Campus Guanajuato of UG, Dr. Teresita de Jesús Rendón Huerta Barrera, welcome the attendants and the national and international specialists who will participate in deep debates towards the Cervantine work.
The General Director of the Quijote's Iconographic Museum and Director of the Center of Cervantine Studies, A.C., Onofre Sánchez Menchero, explained that in this edition of the Colloquium, they will review plans such as the one of Dr. Christian Duverger on the possible change of authorship in the "True history of the Conquest of the New Spain", and will analyze the connection of the "Chronicles of the India" and the "Relationship letters" of Hernán Cortés with Cervantes' work.
At the ceremony was present M. Ana Sara Ferrer Bohorques –Don Eulalio Ferrer's daughter—who thanked those who make this event possible and reminded that it will be 30 years of the creation of the Cervantine Foundation Eulalio Ferrer, which she presides.
Also, the City Hall Secretary, Dr. Carlos Torres Ramírez, who, representing the city's mayor, Lic. Édgar Castro Cerrillo, participated. He sustained that the title "Cervantine City of America" represents proud, but also commitment and responsibility; while mentioning that the city maintains a deep cervantine spirit, for its human quality and the warmth of the inhabitants.
After the opening ceremony, the journeys began with the master conference "Cortés, the Renascent", given by Dr. Christian Duverger, who has dedicated to study the prehispanic and colonial Mexico for over 30 years, and is considered an expert in anthropology and archeology.
