Salamanca, Gto., May 24, 2017.- Physics as the pillar of Engineering, requires the comprehension of the behavior and the relationships between matter, energy, space and time, hence, the Division of Engineering (DICIS) of the University of Guanajuato (UG) hosted the XXIII Physics Experiments Design Contest.
Students of the programs of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical, Communications and Electronic, Mechatronics and Computing Systems of the venues Salamanca and Yuriria, formed the 29 teams of their respective design proposals in the categories of mechanics, electromagnetism and waves, optics and acoustics.
The contest was created on June 11, 2011 by an initiative of Dr. Edgar Alvarado Méndez and Dr. Mónica Trejo Durán, professor-researchers of the Division of Engineering, who this year had the support from the professors Juan Rosales García, César Damián Ascencio and Erick Noé Hernández Rodríguez.
The experiments explained by the students in the category Mechanics, were "Rollercoaster Looping" which help demonstrate the centripetal force and energy conservation; "Brachistochronous curve" an inverted arch that allows an object to move in the minimum time, not the shortest; the "Atwood Machine" to verify the mechanic laws of accelerated uniform movement; "Force machine" as a mechanical device that changes direction of the magnitude of a force" and the "Pellet pump" that considers the change of position of the bodies in space regarding time.
In the category of Electromagnetism and Waves, they presented several experiments such as "Faraday's Experiment" to understand the behavior of the electromagnetic fields; the "Solenoid motor" a device which uses electric energy to achieve a mechanical movement; the "Magnetic levitator" that diminishes the friction inside the mechanical systems, the "Van Graff Generator", an electricity device used to produce great voltages, as well as the "Electroscope" an instrument that determines the presence of electrical charges.
In Optics and Acoustics, exposed the experiments "Controlled Parking by ultrasound sensor", "Infrasonic waves", the "Infrasound simulator" and "Generate and detect ultrasound".
While inaugurating the event, the Rector of UG's Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, Dr. Armando Gallegos Muñoz, invited the future engineers to continue developing their skills in experimental science and take advantage that the Division of Engineering has national researchers in staff.
