Guanajuato, Gto., May 24, 2017.- As part of a tour of the Stanford Symphony Orchestra in Mexico and Cuba, next June 20, the prestige aggrupation will share the stage with the Youth Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato (UG) to offer a special program dedicated to "Música que baila".
Under the conduction of Anna Wittstruck, and with a free concert in the Oratory Temple of San Felipe Neri (La Compañia), the orchestras affirm the power of music to join towns in a true cultural diplomacy.
In the presentation in Guanajuato, the repertoire will be integrated by: Aquilanti Symphony no.4, Applebaum Xenophobe: In Memory of Democracy; Elgar String Serenade, and Marquez Danzon no.2; the last two, together with the Youth Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato, and Beethoven Symphony No. 7 "Allegretto", with the string students of UG's Youth Orchestra.
The Stanford Symphony Orchestra was founded on December 16, 1891, two months after the opening of Stanford University –considered as one of the best academic institutions in United States—. Currently, it is constituted by 100 promising students and members of the university community which are selected through demanding auditions.
The orchestra has been in tour in several countries; and its presentations in Mexico and Cuba have the purpose to promote the cultural exchange through the presentation of a diverse repertoire which focuses in the topic of the "Música que baila", linking music from different times and traditions, from the authorship of European, Russian, North American and Latin American composers.
Master Anna Wittstruck will lead the musicians in a expertly curated program, in which two premieres in Latin America stand out from the renowned Stanford composers: Mark Applebaum's Xenophobe: In Memory of Democracy and Giancarlo Aquilanti's Fourth Symphony ("Tango").
Through Mexico, the Stanford Symphony Orchestra will also have presentations in thte Palacio de Bellas Artes and the Republic's Senate; and in Cuba, they will present in the Teatro Nacional de la Habana.
The concert in Guanajuato, with the Youth Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato will be on Tuesday June 20, at 20:30hrs, in the Oratory Temple of San Felipe Neri (La Compañia). Free entrance.
